I think I have a black raspberry bush growing in my backyard. · 3:13pm Jul 5th, 2014
It all matches up, can't find any kind of poisonous lookalike in the area, and it tasted like a raspberry when I finally tried one.
And I'm not dead yet, so I think it's a raspberry bush.
COOL
You either need to call a local scientist on your discovery of a totally new thing, or you have a blackberry bush. And it's probably a blackberry bush as they're in season right now. Also, are they not amazingly tasty? Something about sun ripened fruit you pick yourself. *drools* There's one or two huge bushes near my house and I love it.

It's not a blackberry. The berries have a very distinctive "bowl" in the fruit, just like a raspberry, but very much UNLIKE a blackberry. The berries are also smaller. And it tastes nothing like a blackberry, but tastes exactly like a black raspberry. I don't think blackberries have thorny canes either, but I might be mistaken. Black raspberries start to fruit right at the end of June/start of July, and carry on through August, so they are in season as well. I did some research to make sure I was eating something tasty, not toxic.
And yes, it was delicious. The mullberry tree we have is pretty tasty too. It's also huge now...
EDIT: Nope, blackberries DO have thorns. But it's still definitely not a blackberry.
2259803 I availed myself of google and that's really cool! I've never encountered black raspberries before. Only raspberries and blackberries which i adore.
