    Dishing out points for 2014

Well, here we are. The semis are over and done with, and we have our list of 26 songs for the final, so now I can go ahead and proclaim myself the least cool person on the planet by dealing out my points. Usual rule: It goes from 1 through 8, 10 and 12, and I can't vote for my own country.

    Slovenia, 1 point.
    Malta, 2 points.
    Italy, 3 points.
    Montenegro, 4 points.
    Armenia, 5 points.

    Eurovision 2014 - It's That Time Again (part 1)

    Sooo...

First off, my apologies for not writing more stuff. Not overflowing with ideas, and while I know that the writer's mantra is "write!", I feel no need to publish what I'd perceive as inferior material. When (not if) I get new ideas for stories, I'll get started again. Promise.

Alright, now I'm a little unhappy

To whoever had the glorious idea of submitting "Love Will Set You Free" to the Canterlot Archives: Thank you for making my day just a little less bright. I know that what I write is not top-tier stuff (which is what the Archives are all about), but I really did not need someone else telling me in words that were none too kind. I can handle brutal criticism of my work when I ask for it - as a

    Oof. Semis are exhausting.

Well, about half an hour ago, we got our 10 qualifiers from the second semi, to go along with the Big Five, the host, and the 10 qualifiers from Tuesday night.

This whole "tag" thing · 9:57pm Jun 2nd, 2012

Okay, right off the bat: I hate, hate, hate chain letters and anything that reminds me of them, such as - um - this game of tag. But I'll play along a little anyway, mainly because it's a nice way to reveal a few things about myself. So, the parts I'll do: Rule 2 (five things about myself) and rule 3 (answer the 11 questions).

So, five things about myself then, eh?

1. I'm 32 years old, male and German (Turkish father, but I know hardly any Turkish and have spent 99 percent of my life in Germany).
2. I'm a student of English linguistics. Getting prescriptive in language debates is a certain way to get me angry.
3. I love doing translations and general editing, and I hope to do this kind of work professionally one day.
4. I'm an avid roleplayer. At the time of writing, I'm sitting on a hotel bed in Hamburg, because I'm attending the biggest RPG con on German soil, Nordcon. Other things I like: Agatha Christie novels (of which I own a complete set), Star Trek, Rock Band (the video game), and the Eurovision Song Contest, as if you couldn't tell that last one.
5. I'm one of seven (ten if you count celebrity specials) German grand prize winners of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?".

Okay, that wasn't too bad. On to the eleven questions, then.

1. Who is your favourite pony?

Possibly surprising considering the main characters of the stories I've written: Fluttershy.

2. Do you know anyone in real life who's a brony?

Quite a few friends of mine are bronies, actually. How could I have gotten an MLP role-playing campaign started otherwise?

3. What is your favorite episode? (wow, I'm original, huh?)

To answer the second question first: yes, you are. ;) As for the first, it's a toss-up between "Dragonshy" and "Secret of My Excess", the latter by virtue of one single scene (you know the one).

4. Were you a fan of any previous MLP generation?

No. I knew about G1, but I can't call myself a fan by any stretch.

5. What is your favorite song from the show?

I'll take the easy way out here: Winter Wrap Up.

6. Do you buy any of the merchendise?

I own quite a few t-shirts, but that's it.

7. Would you be an Earth Pony, a Pegasus, or a Unicorn?

Probably a Unicorn. I'm too nerdy for anything else, in case you couldn't tell. :)

8. What's the greatest villain on the show?

Discord. You gotta love that guy, especially as a Star Trek fan.

9. Which one-shot character do you really wish they'd bring back?

See #8. On the non-villain side, I'd go for Photo Finish, simply to hear Tabitha St Germain tee off like that again.

10. Would you buy a MLP: FiM video game?

Depends on the kind of game, really. An old-fashioned adventure, I'd get in a heartbeat.

11. Out of anything, what would you like to see a crossover with MLP the most?

I'll again take the obvious route and plump for Doctor Who. I admit it'd be a rather drastic tonal shift given Doctor Who's usual fare, but something a little more in the vein of "The Sarah Jane Adventures" might work. If you could get John de Lancie, David Tennant should be possible too, right?

Aaaand I'm out. Thanks for reading this.

Spike is best pony!:moustache:

149559 Well, yes, except for that whole "dragons aren't ponies" thing. And considering I just used that as a fairly major plot point in the prologue to my second story, it would just be weird. :pinkiehappy:

Well dang...if I known you hated these things I wouldn't have tagged you. I really just went by who had commented frequently on Post Nuptials to pick. Thanks for playing along anyway!

149795 How should you know? I guess a majority of people who get one of these simply ignore them, but since I've wanted to do an introductory thing about myself for quite some time anyway, it was an opportunity.

I wanna be tagged :pinkiesad2:

i know he is not a pony but i chose spike:moustache:

150177 Considering it's now (on repeats, mind you) a ban-worthy offense on the site, no, you probably don't. :pinkiehappy:

So, you won the German Millionaire eh? How long did it take for you to spend the whole million? :pinkiehappy:

168905 Actually, I still haven't (and I've had over five years to try). I'm boring that way, I'm afraid. :twilightoops:

168906

Oh, nothing wrong with that. I've just heard stories of people spending a million dollars in a year, while the lottery corporation claims that you'll never have to work again and live the life of luxury if you win the lottery. The ads show people living on private islands!!!! Blows my mind. Anyway, I think that technically makes you a celebrity.

169449 It's certainly possible to spend large amounts of money in a short time, but (and I know how incredibly arrogant and "one-percent" this must sound to most of the users on the site, so I apologize in advance) one million euros really isn't enough money to kick back and never work again in your life. It sounds incredible, and it looks very neat on the account statement, but I feel I am well-off, not rich. But it is an incredibly good feeling that I'll likely never have to worry about being really hard-pressed for money ever again (trust me, I've been there, and I have a lot of friends who still are). The good feeling of having money is nice, but it doesn't measure up in intensity to the bad feeling of not having it.

The lottery thing: The big jackpots - read, the ones that get reported on by the media - usually go into amounts that really equal a life of luxury, above and beyond ten million dollars/euros. That is enough money to never again work a day if you don't feel like it, yet even then, I'm willing to bet a lot of people will continue with their old lives as best they can, as I tried and (hopefully) managed.

A celebrity? Yes, perhaps, if having your name listed in the pertinent Wikipedia articles counts as such. Moving in media circles, even for as short a time as I did, taught me how wildly different that whole circus is from the way I live, and that I want as little to do with it as possible - no offense to anyone working there, it's just not for me. (God, that comes across badly, doesn't it? There are thousands of people out there willing to gain the spotlight in any way possible, and I just dismiss it like that...)
