Gaming My Little Pony

This last weekend, I attended a gaming convention in St. Louis, Missouri, and I ran a role-playing game based on Friendship is Magic. I called it Earthshaker in Equestria, based on an old-school Dungeons and Dragons module.

In short, the Summer Sun Celebration has come once more to Ponyville, and that means trouble. There are changelings in the town, Flim and Flam have returned, and someone has stolen the Alicorn Amulet from Zecora. This sounds like a job for the Mane Six! Unfortunately, they're on a mission to Saddle Arabia, so Mayor Mare has to ask some background ponies to help: The Great and Powerful Trixie, Bulk Biceps, Vinyl Scratch, Doctor Whooves, Derpy, Octavia, Lyra, and Bon Bon

Here are the Pre-Generated Character Sheets. I used the FATE Accelerated System to run the game.

We all had a lot of fun. One player didn't show, so poor Bon Bon sat this out, but everyone else really got into it as they discovered that Sweetie Belle was wearing the Alicorn Amulet, that Queen Chrysalis was plotting to use the power of Earthshaker (a giant robot supposedly built by Diamond Dogs) to attack Equestria, and that Earthshaker was actually powered by King Sombra's severed horn...

Here are some actual quotes from the game:

Me: "The power of dubstep compels you!"

Octavia: "Vinyl, I never thought I would say this... but LEND ME YOUR WUBS!"

Trixie: "I already lost my hat... what more can you do to me?"

Doctor Whooves' Player: "I'm going to use my aspect of Geronimo! to Defend."
Me: "How does that help you?"
Trixie's Player: "You're dodging the attack by jumping to your death!"

Me: "Sweetie Belle's horn glows red as she summons a cape and begins running around and making swooshing noises."

Sweetie Belle: "Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are charged with being GUILTY of BULLYING!"

Me: "Sweetie Belle opens her mouth wide, and a stream of magic flows from Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. They collapse to the floor, their Cutie Marks fading away, and Sweetie Belle suddenly grows to Rarity's size."

Derpy: "Oops, my bad..." *after "accidentally" breaking the Alicorn Amulet.

Trixie: "The Great... and Tired... Trixie is TIRED OF YOUR CRAP!"

Trixie: "I will SHATTER MY HORN to stop this Earthshaker and save Equestria, because I CAN DO IT BETTER THAN TWILIGHT SPARKLE!" *horn shatters* "...worth it."

In the end, I returned Trixie to Ponyville as an alicorn, as her sacrifice allowed her to ascend...
