Memorial Day · 6:09pm May 25th, 2014
For those of you who are not from America (and I realize that there are a few) and to those who are unaware, tomorrow is Memorial Day. This is a time to honor the ones that we have lost while they were serving this country in our armed forces. I just felt the need to put my two cents worth in for those who have served and continue to serve their country in this manner.
I think it's appropriate to mention this holiday considering that there are many good men and women in this fandom who are also in the military. It makes me feel good knowing that there are those who are doing their best to keep this country safe while at the same time enjoy a lighthearted show like MLP-FIM. I personally have nothing but respect and admiration for these individuals who put there lives on the line so that the rest of us may enjoy the freedom their actions grant us. It just seems that sometimes we forget their great acts and simply worry about the 3-day weekend that most of us get.
Every time that I look at the newspaper and read about people from the military, I always see the worst parts of military life and the stories associated with them. Too often I hear about veterans who work their whole lives and have served their country well only to be given the cold shoulder upon their return. It disturbs me greatly that this country would rather pay millions and millions of dollars to "professional" sports players and immoral "celebrities" than to give the real heroes of this country the support and respect they deserve. The real heroes in this country are not the ones that make headlines or appear on the cover of the National Inquirer, they are the ones that work behind the scenes, out of sight and often out of mind of the general public. This is a holiday to commemorate those brave men and women who make the biggest difference in our lives.
God bless all of you out there on this site and beyond that support our military forces.
