Ben Affleck's Batty Reveal · 9:49pm May 13th, 2014
So, as everyone as heard up and down for close to a year now, Ben Affleck is set to play the next live-action Caped Crusader, following actors such as Adam West, Michael Keaton, and Christian Bale. Due to Affleck's very diverse acting career, nobody is really sure if he'll to be able to pull it off.
Well, just today, Affleck's very first image of himself in the Batsuit has been posted for the public.
I'm gonna forgo comments on the suit itself as that is a moot point when discussing the Dark Knight. Instead, I'd like to talk about how I see Batman.
To me, Batman is a symbol. He is meant to be a sign of the good in humanity, for those who have the means to help the world and do so at any cost, even their life. Batman is tough, Batman is stoic, Batman is almost like an impervious wall, but he always does the right thing. And despite his lack of powers in a world filled with godly beings, he never stops trying to save those who cannot save themselves.
I've seen many incarnations of Batman from Kevin Conroy's famous version, the Terry McGinnis Batman, the Dick Grayson Batman, and even Diedrich Bader's version from Brave and the Bold, and what they all shared was their sense of justice.
Now, while I've never seen any of Affleck's films, I've also never seen a live action Batman that spoke to me in ways that the animated and drawn versions do. I won't go off and say I expect Affleck to suck, but until I see some proof that he can pull it off, I don't have high hopes for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.
