Who's up for a new story and The Comics. · 11:51pm May 2nd, 2014
So during a moment of complete and utter insanity I managed to spit out nearly 1500 words on a vaguely put together story. Been aching to do a one shot involving the evil door from the crystal empire. Not finished but the groundwork is there.
Plus I haven’t done a serious story in a while (coughs awkwardly as he looks at Being Royalty still not updated).
Basic plot revolves around Sombra having a chat with Twilight after she accidently activates the evil door’s magic while attempting to destroy it. Simple and straight and forwards. Was also a great way to relieve some built up stress.
While initially a big hater of Sombra, he’s grown on me. Shame he was such wasted potential. Hopefully the new villain tomorrow will be far superior. I’m hyped!!!
That brings me to the comic book series. I haven’t really brought them up before but due to a recent story…angle I’ve had my hand forced.
In short I don’t think I will be adhering to anything brought up in the comics nor any of the stories arcs that occur in them. Not that I was really doing that anyway but I feel that I need to just state it.
If you want my critical opinion of the comics, I’ll indulge you. The comics are a non-event for me. They just don’t do it for me. Sometimes they’re worth a chuckle or two but the stories seem just as rushed as the show most of the time. I dislike some of the writing in it. Some of the turns in the arcs frankly piss me off. The show is very good at keeping the status quo. This can really infuriating at times but at least it doesn’t cause the fandom to go ballistic.
The comics…feel like a bunch of fanfics thrown together. In perspective that may not exactly be an awful thing. But when the writers in the comics act like the show writers and suddenly do world changing events that really should be left to the source material, is where I lose interest.
Yeah it is rather petty mind-set to have. They are only comics after all. I do understand that. I also understand that the comics do something’s quite well from time to time like the changelings return. Then they go along and do something stupid like the end to the Nightmare Rarity arc.
Ultimately there is nothing for me to take from them. I’m aware some people may enjoy them. Good for you. But for me Nah. I think I’ll just stick to the show.
