HiE cliches · 10:57pm May 21st, 2012

I'm thinking about doing a HiE story. But I've noticed that not alot of people like them due to the fact that they have multiple cliches in them.

What are these cliches?
Why don't people like this kind of fic?

Too much Mane 6 shipping...

Too "OP'd" because they get some kind of a special power or something, or there's a prophecy about them, or they're the 7th Element

127726 well that wont be happining in the fic then. I want this one to be unique.

127730 yeah... I'm currently working on a HiE... just giving you my thoughts on it.

127732 :D instafav and thumbup for you.

127737 lol thanks, and I hope your story goes well.

Also before I forget: Title name, Chapter title name, grammar, and spelling

127773 don't worry I'll get an editer before I submit it.

Too much adventure and little time for vanilla, as well as being too cramped together. Space it out, and organize your time.

127786 editor* :P

Also, no matter what you do, there will always be a hater that will dislike your story. Don't worry, it's normal, and don't be upset about it. It will be the equivalent of crying over spilled milk. Whatever you do, you can't change them. Rather than giving up, always ask them why they hate it. It's good as a critique review.

Make it non-brony. A lot of people tend to hate it, but don't make him a hater either.

Too often the main character is a Gary Stu/Mary Sue.
I like HiE's however.

127818 I normally just delete them.

127831 Don't do that. I did that because mine was actually shitty in my own point of view. But I'll help out to review.

127829 Whats a mary sue/gary stu?

127834 no I mean the rude comments. I delete the comments.

127836 too much of perfection, I think

This is why people hate HiE stories. It's a problem with OCs in general, but it's more common in HiE because it's even likelier that your human OC is an author avatar. If it's not obvious (and it should be), author avatars are very, very bad.

127836 I think that 127847 is right about what it means.

Also, too many OC's lead to hate, unless you orchestrate it well

128612>>128615>>128339 vThanks now I can at least make a decent fic. Also how do I deal with haters that try to troll me whenever I do make the fic.

128617 Ignore them
Kindly and Politely request that they stop
Ask what THEY think you could have done to make it better
Ask them to clarify their comments and reasons
Find a way to use logic to Politely turn what they say against them/cause their points to crumble
Try to appeal to their kinder sides
Guilt
DO NOT JUST LASH-OUT
Respond with a Cool Head

I've never had to deal with the problem of trolls, as I have never posted a fic, but these are just some ideas that came to my tired mind.

128617
They aren't trolling you; that's a misnomer. They're just being straight about what they think. If you write a fic whose description is: "a closet Brony whose friends and parents dont undrestand him Wakes up one morning in equestria" and has chapters less than 1500 words long with no descriptive writing and a Mary Sue protagonist and rushed events that make no logical sense, then I'm afraid the guy who leaves a comment saying: "No. :ajbemused:" isn't just being an ass.

If you write a story and you get a negative reaction, do not assume you're just being trolled. YOU did something to deserve that reaction, and it's your job to figure out your mistakes and fix them. There are more of those mistakes to be made in the HiE category than in most others combined, so if you value your ego at all you'll avoid humans or even OCs at all until you can be sure you're good enough to do it right.

This post may sound a bit harsh, but I assure you I've said nothing that isn't true. I wish you the best of luck. :raritywink:

128633 Thanks. Anyway I'm no novice writer, I always get 3 to 5 people to profread for me. Also I'm going to start out with oneshots until I develop enough skill to actually do a proper story. Thank you for your help. Also If you are avalible can you profread this fic for me Here also if the link is broken I provided one in my latest blog post.

128640
Yeah, I can do that. Give me a little while, I'm engaged in a few conversations at the moment. As soon as I have a few minutes to sit down with it, I'll give it the once-over. Mind you, I can be harsh. Are you okay with that?

128648 Yes, Whatever makes me get better. I also would like to say as an auther for childrens stories, I tend to get alot of critisism from everybody. I'm no stranger when it comes to harsh but kind comments especialy from my publisher (Schoolastic. inc)
