Psycho-Pass = MLP? · 10:10am Apr 3rd, 2014
Tell me if this sounds familiar? Every single persons life and job is dictated before they are born and they are pretty much assigned a job because that is what they are said to be best at. An all powerful being watches over everything and because of this being, there isn't a lot of crime. What crime is done is handled by a special group of beings the entity selected for that job. Each member of said group has their own history and their own distinct personalities and all have to work together.
Now is the show I'm describing MLP or is it Psycho-Pass?
I have just finished watching the anime and I can't help but see the similarities between the two shows. Despite both being radically different in tone and plot, I felt this underlying connection between the two shows. Check it out if you've got the time, and maybe you'll see what I see.
I know this is an old post, but I feel the need to comment. I just finished watching Psycho-Pass, and I LOVED it . However, I take issue with your description of jobs being determined before birth. While it may be true in the MLP-verse, in Psycho-Pass, Japanese citizens must take an aptitude test to decide their job. Granted, it's slanted by Sibyl, but it's not quite the same.
But I'm being pedantic. Great to know there're other fans on here!

True, but remember what the whole riot was about? The lower class citizens felt trapped, that they had their fates predetermined by birth and that because they were stuck in their position they and their children could never work up.

2167862 I just finished this series myself! And I couldn't help but see some of the similarities! However I watched the movie first which kind of ruined the whole plot twist about Sibyl being a computer made out of (COMMENT REMOVED). I mean seriously if your entire society is run by a computer made of (COMMENT REMOVED) then you know that your world is pretty messed up.
As for similarities I do kind of see Cuttie Marks sharing similarities with Sibyl. But at the same time this brings up the issue of Cuttie marks all over again. Do ponies receive a mark from destiny of some kind? Or is it that a pony feels so elated at doing something that they want to do it for the rest of their lives and a Cuttie Mark appears? Personally I think that Cutie marks 'choose' a job that inherently makes a pony happy with their 'careers' or they interpret it in a way that makes the most sense to them. Example: Rarity uses her gem finding spell not to be a miner, but to find jewels for her fashion creations.
