My favorite comment. Ever. · 5:52am May 16th, 2012
It's the curse an author needs to live with: the age old idea that, "If I wrote it, I can't be surprised by it." I must have read I Might Have Been, My Maker and A Rose Reverie a dozen times apiece during editing, and beyond that sense of accomplishment that comes from bringing a project to completion, I felt precisely...
Nothing.
But then I realized something remarkable: writing a story that gets a reader to tear up is cool and all, but do you know what's even cooler? A user who writes a comment that hits the author of the story just as hard.
Never in my life did I think I would feel so emotional over 25 words. But it happened. Boy, did it happen. The user who wrote this comment somehow managed to pack an absurd amount of meaning into three short sentences. Friends, meet a person who is now one of my greatest inspirations. He goes by the name "The Overlord," and said the following:
"I'm not crying. I just have something in my eye.
Now I just have something in my other eye.
I have something in my heart."
When I happened upon this comment the other day, I stopped dead. This user had somehow managed to sum up the entire reason I'm an author in less than a paragraph:
I'm an author because I love meaning. I'm an author because the English language is a rich tapestry of hidden potential just waiting to be shaped into beauty beyond imagination. I'm an author because even in the worst of times, a simple story can remind us of the exquisite elegance that life is.
Above all, I'm an author not because my writing is so superb, but because all literature is tantalizing, riveting and mysterious. It strikes us at our core; it resonates with each of us in a different way, burrowing to the deepest depths of our hearts and taking a piece of us with it when it goes. Yet even when it takes a part of us with it, it leaves a part of itself behind as a reminder that beauty is never truly lost. It is only hiding, waiting, watching until the day that its artistry is called upon again.
That is why I write. I could leave behind nothing else, and it wouldn't matter. If at the moment of my death, I've contributed to that world of grace, if I leave just one work that will touch the hearts of others, my legacy is complete; my wish is fulfilled.
Mr. Overlord, you have touched me beyond description. Thank you.
Oh wow, that is a great comment.
I guess my 200+ word comment on how moved I was(about other story) wasn't all that good.
It's nice to see an author actually confessing what he felt to his readers and watchers.
What you said here... 1st I think its a quote. Second... its why all authors should right. Its why I write. There are millons of stories, scenes, characterz and places in my imagination... and I love to share them.
That Comment. . .Just Wow
And As For "if I leave just one work that will touch the hearts of others"

Maybe reading it made Josh think only: tl;dr.
Anyway, most of your stories, Josh, are exquisite, whether you want it or not. And your writing is superb, there's no denying it. The Eternal Gift, My Maker, A Rose Reverie and, above all, I Might Have Been have all pierced the icy block that my heart is covered with and made me weep like a little filly. For that I'm grateful, and will stay to watch you, even if you pull something similar to What's The Point? again ('cause, let's face it, there's no point in trying to win over the automatic featuring system, and the writer of your caliber shouldn't really try, methinks).
Insight isn't one of my talents, but that guy has it. Whenever I try it comes off as myopic.
wow writing beautiful story's from your head to pierce the readers hearts i never would have guessed a comment can help you move along as a writer
wow...
wow....
I may call you the best writer on this site but that, is how you praise an author
