Rust Diary: Pickaxe · 11:12pm Feb 20th, 2014
So I just bought the game Rust today on Steam. For those who don't know what it is, it is a crafting survival game where you survive against hostile wildlife and players. Imagine a zombie game without the zombies, as Rust had them at one point but they got axed.
Back on track, I picked a server at random, and started to gather wood and stone. Then I fell to a wolf. Respawn, regather wood and stone, bear attack, die. This pretty much was my playing session up till the point where it was dark, I was starving, and I just hammered my rock at a door to a flimsy wooden shack. After most of the night (and my hunger) passed, I managed to break the door down, only to find absolutely nothing. Then I die of hunger/mutant wolf frenzy.
My luck then turned as I respawned. I gathered some wood, then heard gunshots. I typed 'hello?' in the chat, and got a response! A guy came up with an MP5 and we talked in chat. He gave me a pickaxe out of the kindness of his heart and warned me to be careful. I was very thankful. Even in games like Rust or DayZ, where people focus more on killing others rather than helping them, the magic of friendship still exists in a few good spirited souls.
Then I noticed how low my hunger was and realised I just passed up my only opportunity for food...
Let's hope I can find some grub before I die!
