Decision! · 4:44am Feb 16th, 2014
I decided today (while in the shower, where else) that I want to write a fic that I actually pull all my stops out on. I've been writing as an idle passtime for almost a year now, but I've never really THOUGHT about anything I wrote. That's why the greater percentile of it stinks, because I'm really shooting in the dark when it comes to hitting upon golden material. Not anymore, though.
Fiery Empire (working title) is a fic I am currently outlining, creating character bios and personallities for, and creating a chapter agenda for. A fic that showcases dragons! I haven't even put a bit of words on the page of the first chapter, but I know what it's about. I'm not going to start writing until I know what I'm doing. Really, really well.
Some argue that this takes the fun out of writing. I beg to differ. Please, find me any successful author who has not thought about what they write before they write it. Hell, even schoolkids that want an A outline their essays. I don't see how fanfiction is any different than that.
I will be posting status updates for Fiery Empire as it progresses through the prewriting process, and hope you will receive it with open arms whenever it is released. I may, after it gets finished, post the outlines and development log of it just for fun so you all can see what went in to it.
THAT IS MY EPIPHANY. GO HAVE ONE OF YOUR OWN. YOU CAN'T TAKE MINE.
