Sleepovers and Such ... · 7:46pm Feb 11th, 2014

Is progressing nicely. I have no idea how I'll go about posting it (either write everything and once that's done publish it a chapter a day, or post it as its written), but so far I like it. I'll try to finish it up as quickly as possible, as a light-hearted interlude until I can get into the second half of The Nightbook. I seriously need something funny before that, or at least warm. Geddit, cuz there's a blizzard in the Nightbook?

Blizzards are cold ...

That's why I said warm. It's irony.

Like, irony. It's funny. Shut up!

Anyway, have the first paragraph of Sleepovers And Such, because I want to post something worth your while:

Finally stepping out of the bathroom was a relief, like it was every morning. Diamond Tiara especially enjoyed the feeling of an thoroughly soaked mane. The way it hung straight down amused her deeply, and the way it would stick to her coat looked funny in the mirror, too. Sadly, unlike a poor pony, she couldn’t just walk around any way she wanted. No; Diamond Tiara was a pony of high society, a pony with money, and therefore had to be presentable when she walked around. So she wrapped the towel around her head as best as she could, though the product of her labor collapsed on itself almost immediately. Why couldn’t the towel come with tapes, too? If it worked for her diapers then it should work for terry cloth.

"An" should only be used when the next word begins with a vowel sound.

"It was an ant."

"It was a tree."

Usually, "a" for consonants and "an" for vowels, but there are a few exceptions, ergo the vowel sounds bit.

"It was a one-time thing."

Since "one" is pronounced like "won", the sound is a W and therefore is not preceded by "an".

I figured it was one of those English writing quirks that you didn't know about, so I decided to play it safe. Plus the vowel sounds bit is something many people don't know about since there's so few exceptions to it.
