Third Chapter- Some Spring-Cleaning. · 4:02am May 6th, 2012
I embarked upon this bi-daily quest to write this fan-fiction to improve my writing skills, and to realise where I need work. Anyway, I've done a lot of background stuff besides write the chapter. So, I'm writing them up bit by bit.
Firstly, I'm subscribing to the episodic release schedule. The idea is rather than release 4000 words once every week (or week and a half, because I procrastinate), I release 1000-1500 words every two days. I get more practise in shorter bursts, and you get your fix every two days. Not a huge amount of pony fix, but a constant drip, if you will.
Second thing of interest is how I occasionally get something wrong. I've had to change Sweetie Bell to Apple Bloom because I got them mixed up. I had even double-checked it, noticed it was Apple Bloom, and then wrote Sweetie Bell. Sigh.
Third thing, I'm having trouble writing some characters; namely Fluttershy and Applejack. With Fluttershy, it's hard to write a mostly internalised character. That said, I'm planning on giving it a shot. With Applejack, I recently read "The Broken Queen" by Amnistar and realised that my Applejack is not nearly country-enough in terms of speaking patterns. So, I tried a lot harder on that front. I hope it paid off, but I'm going to need to keep pushing that.
Fourth thing, I had retroactively added locations next to the dates, rather than let you guess where they are. And yes, Old Bayonet is in ??? and in terms of time is "The Day Before". So no major spoilers besides what I tell you. I thought this was a small touch that would be nice.
Fifth thing, Trixie is still great fun to write.
Sixth thing, I am currently sitting in my living room. I seem to concentrate better here than at my desk.
Seventh thing, I've changed the titles of the chapters. Originally, they were markers of the date, but I decided to change them after writing the line "Sweet Luna, protect me!" Now, every chapter title shall be a quote from within the chapter. I just like it more, and it's a little more interesting to watch than the countdown which will take AGES (don't worry, it won't be going week by week forever).
Eighth thing, I changed the descriptions for the story. Now it's more rhetorical (as in, with more talky bits, than "That was rhetorical, dumbass!")
But yeah, this has been fun. See you on Tuesday.
