Whoa... · 2:13pm May 1st, 2012
So I logged in to my account here for the first time in a while to see if folks have been checking my stories out. I'd say I feel a bit overwhelmed, but that really doesn't do it justice.
I'm truly humbled that so many people have found my stories here and enjoyed them. My only goal while writing fanfics for any series, FiM included, was to entertain. I have no high aspirations for innovative writing or desire to make thought-provoking commentary. I just want to tell a good, fun story and hope people find it and enjoy it. As of today I think I can confidently call "Mission Accomplished" through at least two of my stories here.
I want to take the time to address a few comments I've seen on my stories, just for the sake of response and clarification.
Raiders of the Cutie Mark
Regarding the "canon" ending (a.k.a. the one where the CMC remain as blank flanks), to be honest I'm not all that happy with it either. At the time, I wrote it for the sake of wanting to present a version of the story that could ostensibly fit into the show's canon since as of the end of S2 they are still without their cutie marks. I still think it accomplishes this, but if you were to ask me what my headcanon is for this story it's definitely that the girls get their marks and grow up to continue helping troubled young ones find their calling in life.
As for follow-up stories and sequels, I have been working on and off on some things in this realm. Life and other leisure time activities have derailed me from writing for some time here, but I have every intent on exploring this continuity a bit more if from a different perspective.
A Simpler Time
Before I hit any comments on this story...folks, words fail me here. This is a story I thought was destined for obscurity. It's a tiny little oneshot based on a meme comic. It got rejected from Equestria Daily for "not presenting anything more than the source material gave us" (yes, that is more or less exactly what I was told after submitting it.) I had no expectation that this story would ever be noticed. It is bar none the single most popular and successful fanfic I have ever written for any series, and I owe it to you all who found it, read it, and have rated it and/or commented on it. You are all amazing, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
To those who picked up on it, yes the Yuki Nagato reference was intentional. I have to admit, for a while I wondered if anyone would catch it. For those not familiar, Yuki is a rather bookish character in the Japanese manga/anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and the scene between Rarity and Twilight here is word for word the same as one involving the series' main protagonist and Yuki upon their first meeting. In my head it just fit remarkably well here, and I am a sucker for referential humor if you couldn't tell.
I intend to do a little editing on this story just to retcon Twilight's family situation given the S2 finale. This story was written far before we knew Twi had a brother. Tempted as I am to leave the story as-is, I do want to keep this roughly in line with the show's continuity. Fear not, though, the change will not be substantive.
That's all I have to say for now. Again, I really am working on new material and do hope to have something to share before the end of the month. You all deserve the best I can deliver and I don't want to rush something for the sake of just getting something new out there. Thank you all again for your kind words, support, reviews, and everything. I would count each of you as a friend were that I knew you better, and friendship really is magic. You have all proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Kewl. Nice to see you around. RotCM is still one of the happiest stories I've read in the fandom.
