FiMFiction's NSFW Policies and Reservations About my Upcoming Fairy Tale · 2:11am Nov 9th, 2013
Regarding policies:
I discussed the state of affairs with FiMFiction's NSFW policies in a previous post, so I won't belabor this much. Knighty finally did what should've been done in the first place, and clearly explained why the changes were made. Not that Knighty will ever see this post, but kudos to him for that. The short version is that the ad provider is a jackass. Removing NSFW blog posts was insufficient, thus the tightening of the belt on cover art for stories (no rule change, just a stricter interpretation), though, and linking got some new rules--rules that make it impossible for me to actually share the location of Smoke related stuff, even if it's offsite. (Specifically, no linking to NSFW material from SFW stories, blog posts, user profiles, or stories.) So that's that. I don't fault Knighty, but this is where I go off on an incoherent rant about moralistic pricks in the world using any leverage they can get to force those with less restrictive views of sexual content to play the prude as well.
Regarding my fairy tale:
As the subject said, I have reservations. That's not because I think it's awful, but because... it's a fairy tale, linguistically (at least to the best of my ability). That is, it's not modern in style, but follows all the linguistic tropes that "real" fairy tales do, from the "once upon a time," to the fondness for sets of three, to the stilted, semi-conversational tone. I'm concerned some readers may find this off-putting. The second reservation I have is in regards to the clop. It's there. Oh yes, it's definitely going to require the Mature/sex tag. I'm not 100% confident that this works well with a fairy tale told as fairy tales are traditionally told, though. The story may end up a botched result of an interesting experiment gone awry. And, the third reservation is simply that it may not be up to my usual standards, simply because I'm writing in a long-abandoned style. People, myself included, don't write fairy tales anymore, in the traditional sense. More editing is required than I usually need, to fix places where I went overboard on making it sound like a fairy tale, or places where the stilted style turned into confusing, hard to read nonsense.
So, regarding the fairy tale, we'll have to see. I wouldn't bet the bank on it, and if you're not a fan of traditional fairy tales, honestly, you may as well give it a pass. The good news is this: It'll be finished and submitted to the site's mod team for publication this weekend, potentially overnight tonight. POTENTIALLY.
Perhaps you could indirectly link to stuff? Link to an SFW place that then links to the NSFW? I don't know how strict the rules would be, so you would have to ask unless you want to just risk it. Otherwise you might have to make a different place for info, like a tumblr account (this fandom loves tumblr for some reason).
