No, I'm not dead, and neither is Backwards Through the Mirror. However, some very troubling things have happened of late, and I've had little time or energy to work on writing.
Most notably, my fiancee's grandfather died. He was 91, a WW2 veteran and Pearl Harbor Survivor, but he was still important to her life and I've taken some time off to make sure she was alright. He was a good man, and it's been a week or so since the funeral, but shortly after he died, my cat was diagnosed with cancer.
Yes, cancer. More particularly a Spindle Cell Tumor, which sends insidious, invisible roots out into surrounding cells to convert them quietly to its deadly cause. It tends to cause an infected lesion over the tumor site, and it's also very resilient against drugs and radiation, so the only answer, sadly, is amputation. Fortunately cats adapt well to being a tripod, but making sure she eats and drinks and is as happy as she can be with a Cone of Shame about her head is taking up all of my time.
Still, later today she'll be a leg short, and it's been very hard all around as everyone in my house deals with the reality of the situation. So I apologize for being late on updates, but it's been a dark, trying time, and I beg your patience as I work on updating and beginning the descent into the final arc of the story.
Take all the time you need. There are more important things than writing stories about ponies.
