Being an artist doesn't seem to pay off · 3:16pm Oct 29th, 2013
Not long ago I worked on a request: a fanfic cover for X-Ray One, in which he asked me to draw this: http://sayer09.deviantart.com/art/Request-Skies-Ablaze-Fanfic-cover-389694297
Just so you know it, I never drew a jet before (it's an F-35, which he made sure to drill in my brain during the whole process). And today I was checking his account to see my work. But guess what? He replaced my cover. Without warning. Without telling me anything.
All my work, for nothing. After all my effort and time spent on his Request for something I never tried before, he goes and replaces me without warning because he found something better. I mean, yeah, he's free to do it, but at least tell me something! He knows how hard it was for me to draw this thing, but did he care? Well, it doesn't look like it.
Sometimes being an artist doesn't seem to pay off...
Any type of art, whether it be writing, drawing, or singing can be unrewarding at times. As an author, if you type one paragraph that the reader doesn't agree with, they'll take your hard earned work and throw it in the trash without a second thought. As an artist, if someone finds a better picture, they'll replace yours. As a singer, people can simply refuse to listen as you pour your heart and soul out.
But don't be discouraged. These are momentary and passing times. As we grow and our skills improve, when work for the people who /do/ appreciate our work, and find solace in that. It hurts when your hard worked is tossed aside, yes. But, you have to just get back on that saddle and keep riding to that sunset in the distance, because one day you shall reach it. Never give up or downplay yourself or your abilities, my friend.

No problem, my friend! If you ever need to talk to somebody about something, I'm always available!
