Chapter Three in Progress · 12:03am Apr 19th, 2012
As I write this, I'm 480 words into chapter three.
So far this is the chapter I've had most fun writing... I never thought so much fun could be had while taking inventory of one's own man-purse.
Tune in next time to see Twilight Sparkle's mind be blown by the immeasurable wonder of ball-point pens.
Go for the eyes Boo! GO FOR THE EYES! RRRAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHH!

Man-purse, lol! We guys really do get a bit shafted by the fact that shoulderbags, purses, and the like are still considered somewhat "women-only" items. They're doggone useful things to have on your person -- there's only so much you can do with pockets and a briefcase, and a backpack just doesn't quite cut it sometimes.
Still, Twilight + ballpoint pen? Oh, this is going to be good!
76089 Agreed! I friggin' LOVE my courier bag. I never ever leave my apartment building without it. It's like one really big pocket with smaller pockets inside, that I use to carry around pretty much everything I ever need when out and about.
And I always have my sketchbook and sketching pencils in there in case I suddenly get an awesome idea for a bit of pony fanart.
And yes... Twilight + Ball-point pen... it's going to be the new big thing in shipping fics.
76127 Or also now that they've confiscated our protagonist's pants, mayhaps they've also now discovered the principle of the zipper? (I guess it depends on where you set Equestria's clothing tech-level. They may or may not have independently developed something similar, but if they haven't that's another little mechanical marvel for their eggheads to geek out over. )
76147 Oh man! I didn't even think about the zipper. Luckily, the pants I envisioned him crossing over in have buttons instead, so I guess I dodged that bullet... lucky too, as I'm just now beginning to write out Twilight having a talk with Rarity about his clothes. 1385 words into this chapter now... I definitely want this one to be longer than the other two.
76189 (grumble-grumble-grouse... FiMFiction going offline right as I'm composing a reply... eh, oh well)
Well, Cordovan, I certainly do love long chapters (incurable bookworm and all). I'm really looking forward to seeing them go over his effects and realize just how alien this creature is. Rarity would probably notice how odd the fabrics and weaves of his clothes are. Machine weaving and sewing have allowed us to have fabrics of a quality that would've been inaccessible to all but royalty back before the Industrial Revolution. They also bear unique characteristics that only a seamstress would notice (different stitching method, for one thing, one that wouldn't be a good one to do manually, but which machines pull off beautifully and perfectly evenly. That'd raise the eyebrows of those who know what to look for). If he brought his wallet along for the ride, his photo ID (and credit cards) will cause some headscratching. Even if they could read the darn things, what purpose does a card with someone's name and picture have? That and the fact that most have enough flashy imagery in the background as security elements (some even have holograms) to place them well in the what-the-crazy-is-this-voodoo category.
I could really go on about this kind of thing far longer than I should (as an engineer, I tend to pay a lot more attention to these details than most folks do). Suffice it to say that I hope that Twilight gets her mind blown out the back of her head as she tries to make sense of our protagonist's possessions, 'cause if he's got even a fraction of the innocuous things most normal first-world businessmen carry around on their persons (including artifacts of clothing), a detail-obsessed pony like Twilight is going to have a hundred thousand questions within the first hour of her examinations. Good luck, Twi!
(belated wall of text apology)
Edit: and I should've checked the story update before reposting the above.
