An update on my views on "Feeling Pinkie Keen" · 9:38pm Oct 10th, 2013

Copied from my Deviantart journal entry: http://rkerekes13.deviantart.com/journal/Feeling-Pinkie-Keen-AGAIN-397439078

I have a few small confessions to make.

First off, after watching some of my experimental edits of that episode several times, I've figured that I've gotten used to all the physical hell that poor Twilight suffers by now, eventhough I still feel that I wanna reach out and give her a big ol' hug. So on 9/1/13, I decided to give the original, unedited version a re-watch, and I honestly wonder whether or not I should have added in those dramatic cues. Well, either way, I believe that watching some of those edited versions several times did help me see the episode in a different light. If anything at all, I'd probably consider "Feeling Pinkie Keen" to be more dramatic than funny.

Secondly, about Twilight, well, I'll admit that she did act in a rather unlikable manner in this episode which made me go on the inside, "It ain't worth it! Just give it up!" But even with that being said, I still think she deserves plenty of hugs for all the somewhat coincidental abuse she took.

Well, now that I've got those out of the way, I should probably reiterate that I find this episode's moral to be fairly acceptable, since to me it is, as TV Tropes would put it, Truth In Television, in the sense that some things just aren't worth having skepticism constantly thrown at them. Plus, I'm still pretty sure that religion has absolutely nothing to do with this episode whatsoever and rather focuses on fairly more natural phenomenons which, surprisingly enough, may actually be addressed through symbolism in this episode.

Hope that all helps! ;)

I think I get the gist of what you're saying, BlueEyedPegasus. Even if Twilight was acting in an unlikeable manner, the sympathy we feel towards her is balanced out by the "coincidental abuse" as you put it that she endures.

Also, like in "Owl's Well That Ends Well", I feel that the third act of "Feeling Pinkie Keen" kinda redeems Twilight's actions from earlier in the episode. Here's what I mean:
1. When running from the hydra, she went back to save both Pinkie, who was frozen in fear, and Spike, who got stuck in the swamp mud.
2. She offered to distract the hydra in order to buy the others enough time to get across to the other side safe and sound.
3. She decided to trust Pinkie when she told her to jump across, claiming that she would be okay.
4. Subtly realizing how skeptical she's been for the wrong reasons and decides to just accept the Pinkie Sense for what it is, even if she doesn't understand it.
5. Complementing Pinkie in her message to Princess Celestia and joining her in wearing an umbrella hat.

In other words, I think "Feeling Pinkie Keen" and "Owl's Well That Ends Well" are similar in that even if both of them paint Twilight in a negative light, particularly during the second act, the third act manages to make up for it by showing her in a bit more of a positive light and give her some decent character development.

Would you agree with these statements?

2437152 Well, those are some interesting points, and I may have to agree with you on them.

Thanks, man. Besides, I'm sure some people can at least agree that Twilight's actions in both "Feeling Pinkie Keen" and "Owl's Well That Ends Well" were a little more forgivable then her actions in "The Mysterious Mare Do Well".

2442004 Speaking of which, I've made an edited version which makes the actions of Rainbow Dash's friends less questionable:

Thanks for the link, but I don't think it would change my opinion of "The Mysterious Mare Do Well" being the weakest episode of Season 2.

Now, if I didn't know any better, I'd say Twilight is your favorite pony based on the way you keep say she deserves all the hugs in the world for all the abuse she suffers through in "Feeling Pinkie Keen". Am I correct?

2458874 Well, she's just one of my favorite characters.
