I like whistling.
My mother was very stringent about no whistling, she claimed it gave her headaches. So now, I whistle whenever I can. Hum, too.
I would always whistle "If I Only Had A Brain", from The Wizard of Oz, because it's a very whistle-able song. (And I only just saw that episode of TNG, like, last week.) Also "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". Also the Red Dwarf theme.
Sometimes, too, you have something else that you really like, but you can't do it, because it's giving you a headache. Even though you really like it, it's just not going anywhere at the moment.
That happens sometimes with stories. When you're writing them, I mean. I have several things I've started that I just cannot seem to finish, because they're just not sitting right, at that moment. You do enough of this, and eventually you always have something you're in the mood to work on. You just have to... wait for the right moment.
Some things I'm still waiting on. Like, what happens next in Back to Equestria? I don't know. I had a vague idea about a giant boss battle, but it seemed sort of awful. And The Serpent and the Cidermare? I know where the plot's supposed to go, but it's just not in the groove right now. You know what I mean?
Gryphonies was meant as a way to get around this. Just to throw on whatever and keep what stuck. Like pasta. And it works! Mostly. If I don't like where it's headed, I just take it somewhere else. No set future or ending, except for the barest of vague notions in my noggin.
This is mainly because of The Gryphons. Yeah that's right, The Gryphons spawned Gryphonies, in a metaphorical if not literary sense. Even though they're not the same universe, a lot of the influence can be seen from one to the other, as well.
Right now, though, I'm really grooving on this fanfiction for another fandom I'm in. It's a bit more abstract than what I usually post here, but it suits the books well. It's one of my favorite series, and I'm glad to be writing fanfiction for it.
Y'all heard of Temeraire? It's the Napoleonic Wars, with dragons. And everyone's a gentleman.
The author started out writing fanfiction on LiveJournal. What I'm writing for it is another transformation fic! Whoop-de-doo. Though, that's about where the similarities to anything else I've put here ends. I hope to put another chapter up for it by the end of this week, and another chapter of Gryphonies by Sunday.
Non-pony Temeraire fic Friday, Gryphonies Sunday. Got that?
And where on God's green earth can I find some decent, bottled, iced tea, without any lemon or sugar in it? Besides Tejava. That shit tastes like ash from how much I'm drinking it.
I totally know that feel of not finishing what you start. Also, it sucks when you forget how to whistle (like me).
I have never been capable of whistling and I don't know why.
I knew there where other people who read those books! Looking forward to reading it.
