On Planning Ahead and Other Topics · 4:42am Sep 12th, 2013
I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the plot morphs before my fingers, now, as I write, rather than being annoyed at it. It is a liberating feeling to know that just because something changes, that doesn't mean it is bad.
In fact, if everything in the Memoryverse had gone to plan, Streak wouldn't have ever started that thing with Rainbow, wouldn't have had that thing with Celestia, hell, he wouldn't even be the same person as he is now. He would have been closer to the Travelerverse Change, just with more creepy obsessive traits aimed at Twilight and working vocal cords. So glad I got rid of those in both iterations. The obsessive traits, not the working vocal cords.
Also, because of these changes, there will indubitably be continuity issues between books, and even between chapters! Feel free to point these out to me. While I won't change any published chapters until I'm done and start rewriting everything, it might give me a springboard to catapult trouble from the past at Streak (or Change, if you find an error in the Travelerverse). For example: in chapter three, Streak mentions a Nightlight when listing off names from his past. She was cut from the final version, replaced in function by Celestia. In fact, she was originally supposed to be the pony version of Chrysalis before she was changed. Hell, the changelings were the soldiers Streak commanded in open rebellion against Celestia with Luna. Obviously, that was cut. I just couldn't find a way to fit it in with the changing, no pun intended, plot.
Also, I don't know if any of you noticed, but in an earlier post I mentioned that Streak beat somepony to death with their own formerly attached (it was just there five seconds ago!) leg. That was Chrysalis, who, at least in the original plot, offered Twilight as a slave to Streak as a welcoming gift to the first non-changeling to ever join the hive at the end of the now-cut plot of the original book four. Obviously, that didn't quite work as she intended.
