Progress Report #2 · 4:41am Apr 9th, 2012
Alright, another quick update on the story (not that anyone's actually reading this) but I've managed to get a story title, some minor story artwork done (I'm no artist by the way but the art I'll be delivering should greatly reflect on the upcoming story, rather than you guys looking at it and thinking 'wat'). I've been thinking more about the storyline and the new places and... things. A word of warning: I will be adding a lot of new lore relevant to the current FiM story, almost like an alternative reality but still sticking the the mane 6, locations, etc...
I've begun writing out a prologue for the story explaining various new lorey bits... well, I say prologue but the way I've written it is more of a Wikipedia entry :/ this is because I've introduced new places with abnormal features, and if someone suddenly asks, say, "Why have you created a town inside a volcano? There's no reason for them to!", (note: my story doesn't feature volcanoes... or does it?!) I want to be able to say "That's because the town has this... that... and the other, that's why"; every town and settlement in the world has a reason and a story behind it and I don't want to say "It's there because it is, okayyyyyyyy". I like to have a logic reasoning for the locations of places and why. It kind of defeats the purpose of settling on an someplace if you end up getting everything you need elsewhere, or if there are no valuable resources there. That's my logic behind creating towns within stories - using the volcano example, there's little point having a settlement there in the first place if it's easier, better and safer to build a settlement 1 mile away from it, despite how epic a town in a volcano would be; it would need justifying though. Look at the towns in Skyrim, for instance, and you'll see they all have stories behind it. Okay, I've rambled on too long about that haha. Another reason I've gone to lengths with the lore background information on this page is that I like to think I'm teasing the reader, in that somewhere, there might be important details about the storyline or perhaps they are just miscellaneous bits of information, maybe it's all seriously important or if it really is just a Wikipedia entry that serves no function to the plot...
But as for the Wikipedia-styled prologue: perhaps I should fix it? Perhaps I should leave it as it is? I guess I should decide later but for now I should get on with planning out the primary plot, as well as secondary and tertiary plots, any relevant lore and some more artwork, namely. I've done fan fics in the past - by past, I mean as in 10 years ago; I felt they were of decent quality but I never had plan, always thinking about the next on the fly and ended up never finishing it. This time around, I'll be going all out. 3 plans, logos, lore, artwork (mainly for visualization but as a concept as well), character development, and full background on each new character. There are many types of genre's I'd love to have a go at and many of which I'll try to include into this story. Shipping? Maybe
