I'm putting "A Cold Life" on hiatus. Not a very long one, mind you, but one in which I'll be focusing on other stories. Right now, I've got writer's block for that story, and lots of ideas for other ones. When I feel like it, I'll type up another chapter. Until then, I'm just letting my other stories have their turns. Sorry to disappoint if you really wanted to see more of it :(.

I just put 2 of mine on hiatus as well.
1307775 Well this isn't just any story, this was the first story I ever made. It's the one that got good enough feed back to make me write even more stories. Yeah, I don't like putting it on hiatus at all
. However, atm I can't think of any more chapters, so I just though people should know that it's currently not updating.
1307782 Yea, I had a short hiatus on my second story for nearly 3 or 4 months.
For the same reason, I couldn't really think of anything for it. In the same bind with 3 of my stories at the moment.
My desktop notification thing isn't working I wonder if I turned it off or something.

1307862 I read over your whole story, and I think the next chapter might be good if it focused on the guard getting the other ponies together, before going to get Applejack and finding her hurt.
After finding her like that, he tells Big Mac what happen then he flies back to Golden Oaks and informs them of what happen to Applejack. They wake up Twilight and go to the hospital to check on her.
Or something like that anyways.

Yea, it's what I do might not work for everyone. Most of my ideas hit me when I'm trying to get to sleep though. 
Where my Mare Do Well story came from, I couldn't sleep cause the idea kept floating in my mind. Finally just got up and wrote out the first chapter.
