    Editing old chapters

If you're reading my story, I'll first apologize for not writing as often as I used to. The rating has been good but among the comments have also been complaints about the story feeling rushed and lacking dialogue. I'm still writing the new chapter, but it has become clear to me that the first several chapters do not measure up to that same quality, chiefly the dialogue. Showing, not telling.

    Q & A

If you have read my story, Reaching for the Sky and you have any questions or observations to make about the story and its various elements, I will answer any comment below to the best of my ability. Be it about the techno-babble or Samuel's past. Facts about him and SAM, his corporation and anything else you might wonder

    Thank you readers

Nothing much to say, I was simply looking at the number of upvotes my story has gotten and I am quite surprised since Reaching for the Sky has 123 upvotes and only 9 downvotes at the time of writing this blog. Frankly, when I notice another author's story with a similar rating, I can hardly resist the temptation of reading it

    Update!

So yeah, I finally got around to posting another chapter of my story. Sorry for the long break, but life has been demanding my attention. I hope this latest chapter is to your liking and it features cool new violence, character development (Euphoria totally does some power leveling). To those still tracking this story, thank you for your patience. To those who have stumbled upon it more recently,

Wall of text - Thoughts on season 4 so far (also, I'm not dead)

First of all, I'm still around and I know my story has been neglected now for quite a while. I do plan on posting more. Recently I've been gathering inspiration for more chapters, because while I have plans for a definate ending and even a possible second story arc, I have been drawing a blank on how to get there. I don't want to rush straight to the end quite yet. Now I feel I'm ready to start

Finally got a chance to watch Equestria Girls · 1:45am Aug 9th, 2013

My main reaction was 'I am not high enough for this,' but then I worked on that and watched it through and it was kinda funny. Still it made me a bit worried about trying to make a canon ship even if it was just a creepy dobbelganger from a humanized world. Actually, yeah that's what made me feel worried. Seriously, his character is just a watered down Shining Armor and that's a mental connection that belongs in Mature Rated fics on this site, not on the Hub. 'We can't keep bumping into each other like this.' That's it. He gets one catchphrase and a lot of dopey looks.

But Twilight's dance was awesome and it just made it better when that dude joined in. Yeah I can't even remember his name. Not a lasting impression, that one.

So uhm... Why did this get good reviews?

So uhm... Why did this get good reviews?

I don't know.
Personally I can't stand the way they look as "humans". If you can call them that. Because I don't. Humans don't have blue, yellow, vibrant red, green, purple, skin and hair tones—especially not Crayola-grade mixtures of them. Nor do humans have oddly-proportioned bodies with gigantic heads and weird-looking faces with absurdly huge eyes. Also, Flash Sentry crush was a pointless subplot. I'm seriously hoping he never appears ever again.

...On another, more important but completely off topic note—your story really deserves more love. It's unappreciated given how well you pulled off the sorts of concepts that most fanfictions with similar themes stumble over. I think that's what puts off a lot of people—they think it's going to be another story with an overpowered self-insert character that has romantic relations with one of the Mane Six. But it's not that at all, which is what makes it so sad that it doesn't get more attention.

I'm rooting for you.

Thank you. I had meant to get back to writing the story, the trouble is my imagination sort of skipped ahead to a whole two plot arcs that could each be a seperate story of their own, but first I need to write more on the current story.

I'm honestly amazed I got more than 100 likes. Usually 100+ stories are quite good and go to my read later folder, where I read them quickly and track them. As for the overpowered main character, I was surprised to be getting praise for it since more HiE fics focus on the human being weak.

Anyway, I'll get back to writing more stuff soon.

I'm really tired of the "humans are frail" archetype that many, if not most, authors seem to assume, despite the obvious fact that MLP:FiM and the real world have different laws of physics.

"Magic" physics should come into effect once then human appears in the MLP:FiM universe. Therefore, a human body should behave more or less like any living body native to the universe, as a single transversal human would not override the native laws of physics. This means that in a version of MLPverse where the show's "cartoon-like" physics are used, they should consistently come into play with the human(s) just like they do with everything else, such as characters having ridiculous durability compared to what we're used to and surviving long falls without so much as a scratch.

So of course things in that reality will seem more powerful than humans in our reality; they're in a universe where such comparatively ridiculous things are allowed by the laws of physics. But, put them on Earth where that isn't the case, and we'd get a completely different story.

I like to think all ponies are saturated with magic giving them incredible strength. Rainbow Dash healed a broken wing in two days, complaining about the duration of her stay in the hospital. Bic Mac drags a house effortless as he hops along the ground.

Obvious answer to that when you don't have magic: Bring a gun to a magic fight. :pinkiecrazy:

What about everything else? There are more than just ponies in the show.

"But, ponies and other creatures have physical attributes that allow them to store magic in their bodies or otherwise pull it from the environment, as well as physical attributes that allow them to put that magic to practical use!"

If you please, can you provide the evidence that suggests a non-pony from the show—let's say... a cow?—is indeed the one that has the special attributes that allow magic physics like "super durability"... rather than the reality itself just having laws of physics that affect any similar living creatures?

It's true that the laws of physics are greater than the wills of living organisms, so it's far less speculative to assume that the laws of physics are what cause the bodies of creatures to behave similarly in the same scenario in MLPverse. Claiming that MLP creatures are only "super durable" and the like in comparison to humans because they have special attributes that allow them to be "super durable" is assuming even more other unsupported and unmentioned conclusions rather than simply assuming that the laws of physics of MLP:FiM reality are different from those of Earth reality.

Occam's razor is a heuristic, not a proof, I know; but it's a useful heuristic that is often employed to interpret the merit of hypotheses.

Of course, headcanon will be headcanon, I know. I'm just exposing the ridiculousness of assuming they've got special attributes inexplicably allowing them to pull off those feats, instead of just assuming that the laws of physics are different from our own. Because the latter is definitely a more reasonable hypothesis.

The only magic stuff I've seen in animals is Tucans and Eagles and anything else with wings being able to sit perched on clouds. Also, animals talking seems to suggest that they're magical, too.

But yeah, between going cartoon physicals and using magic as a natural attribute, I chose the latter. It seems pretty well established that everything thrives on the magic of harmony and when the Crystal Empire was restored, you literally saw arcing colors of magic spread throughout the lands.

I wanted a more mature explaination as well and I decided on going Alternate Universe, where the dear little ponies get hurt and don't always get a magic bandaid, but it takes some effort to inflict that kind of damage and you need to be quite twisted, like a certain maniacal dragon.

1272429

But yeah, between going cartoon physicals and using magic as a natural attribute, I chose the latter.

The second is actually exactly the case. Magic is pretty much like electromagnetism in their world. It's basically a fundamental force of their world. Fundamental. So something not inherently interacting with that force upon entering the world would be... well, bad for that thing. Like, atomic destabilization "you fall apart at the quantum level" bad.

Ponies are made of flesh and humans are made of flesh. They should react to ambient "fundamental magic" similarly, right?

...That is, unless Ponies are made of magic super marshmallows.

But if that's the case, I say "fuck that noise" and invoke this:

Because "nanomachines son" > "magic super marshmallows" on the hierarchy.

My main reaction was 'I am not high enough for this,'

There isn't enough weed in the world...

... :pinkiecrazy: *Lights up*

1547391

Determined to prove me wrong, eh?

1547395

I'm as eager for more weed as any stoner. It just makes ponies that much more fun.

You would get along with my colleague, MrPockets. He lives by much the same creed.
