We've gotten so many nods from Studio B in the recent episodes (Fluttertree being canon, a Trixie mention, a guest appearance by Spitfire, and of course Derpy). I must admit, I'm very please with this creator/fandom dynamic we have right now; not many shows I know actually listen to and respect the desires of its viewers *coughRyanMurphycough*. However, there's also the possibility of going too far. Where should the line be drawn? What is acceptable and what isn't? These kinds of questions will surely become more relevant as time goes on and the fanbase expands. But until then, there are some things that I think we can safely agree shouldn't
become canon:
-RD's sexuality, or any fanon ship for that matter. While I'd love to see a PinkieDash episode, I'm sure parent groups and conservatives would protest it. Mare-on-mare pairings would not be met with praise, I'm certain of that.
-More alicorns. Cadence is fine, but the alicorns are supposed to be powerful deities. Including too many without explaining where they came from--i.e. simply throwing them into the show for the purpose of selling more toys--would ruin their credibility.
-Certain topics that are explored in fanfiction, like death and divorce, are definitely too risky to be included in a children's cartoon. If there was an episode in which Scootaloo's parents were revealed to have died or something along those lines, someone is going to be offended somehow. We don't need another Derpy spectacle.
This reminds me of those rumors spreading around about Season 3. When I first saw that there would be a Derpy episode, I could not contain my excitement and accidentally stubbed my toe from jumping up and down. Then I scrolled down to read about Lyra and Bon-Bon's wedding and Pinkie's grandmother's death and I said, "SEEMS LEGIT." We almost certainly won't see any episodes like THAT anytime soon.
