It really grinds my gears when I see two pegasi, two earth ponies or two unicorns shipped together. The way I see it, it's limiting the genetic diversity of any children the two of them may have.
The Apple family seems to be great perpetrators of this act; the family photo had one pegasi and every-one else was an earth pony. I ship Big Mac with a pegasi, Applejack with a unicorn and Applebloom gets a Changeling boyfriend when she gets to college. Wings and horns may be recessive traits in pony DNA but having them in the first place promotes genetic diversity, and since when did a dog being a mutt make him/her less than perfect? My sisters dog is a german shepherd/saint bernard mutt and she is the sweetest, gentlest dog you'll meet. Only breeders care about such things and Celestia is no tyrant who chooses who her citizens "breed" with.
In short, the Apple family being ranchers know genetic diversity is good for crops, and they are changing their own ways unless they DO have unicorn and pegasi mates already. Look for the phrase "filthy horoughbred" in my upcoming stories, no promises.
