A good story is like · 2:19pm Jul 16th, 2013
I like reading a good story, even if it's just fanfic sometimes. Often, when I'm reading a story, if it's written well enough it can put a kind of "trance" on me. Not a trance like a zombie-state or like a hypnotic "yes master, whatever you want master" kind of trance. No, the kind of trance where I can't peel away from the story until I realize that I can't take it anymore and run away to get some air and break my mind away from the all encompasing world of the story.
Some of the stories I've found on Fimfiction.net have revealed to me that a good story is like a magic spell. This includes other media as well, speeches, visual presentations, all sorts of things that, if done well, can pull their audience into another world.
For a long time I've wished that magic were real becuase I've always wanted to be able to "do" things with just my mind. This realization, that a good story can have such a strong affect on people makes me equate it to, well, magic, at least a certain kind of magic.
It's strange really, in D&D the most laughed at spellcaster is the Bard because the bard class is... really weird. But at the same time, based on the above observation, it appears that "Bards" would be the ONLY spellcasters in this world.
A good story is magic.
