Minor recommendations, ahoy! Titles go to the stories. Names go to the authors.

    Season 4

I never quite watched all of Season 3. I haven't watched any of Season 4. It occurred to me while writing for personal amusement that I won't feel comfortable posting any pony stories I happen to write until I've caught up on the episodes. At the same time, I feel a strange trepidation about watching Season 4.

    Ponyfinder

Apparently, I at some point ordered a copy of Ponyfinder. Or something.

Between this event transpiring and my receipt of my actual copy of the book, I forgot that I'd ever done it, and in fact forgot that Ponyfinder was a thing that existed. In case anyone reads this and doesn't know, Ponyfinder is a thing that exists.

Twilight, nooo! Bad Twilight! · 11:38pm Jun 24th, 2013

Why did you do that to Nightmare? That wasn't in the script!

I hate being a discovery writer sometimes.

Oh well, I needed a way to involve Discord in the story. This will do!

You can write them badly, because screw characterization, there's an outline to follow!

(I'm pro discovery writing. )

I'm not actually sure I count as a discovery writer. I write without planning, but I'm not shy about pruning off directions I don't want the story to take. I sort of go back and say, "Well, what if this happened instead?" In this very instance, I am going to be chucking two scenes in order to add in a discordant intervention that I think will produce a better story down the line.

I might be wrong about that, of course. It's a gamble. Whispering Stars produced a lot of dead ends and non-standard game overs before I got to the ending. The best one involved Twilight Sparkle running away from Canterlot and throwing a pity party with her friends. It was actually rather appropriate as a means of exorcising the influence of Nightmare, but it was very anticlimactic for the story.

I'm also willing to rewrite dialogue, such as when I realized that when Twilight does 'that' to Nightmare, she got some of her magibabble backwards. I realized the flub later. Doesn't change the outcome.
