'Sup, followers!
Sorry for essentially disappearing for a month and a half; finals were keeping me kind of busy and I didn't have time to be active on here.
I just wanted to let you know that new chapters of Tank 'n Pals WILL be coming very soon. The Diamond Tiara Files will take a little bit more time, but I promise you that I haven't abandoned that project either. The thing is that I already have a pretty good idea of where I'm going to go with the Tank 'n Pals story, but Files will take some reworking before I can really proceed with the plot.
So... yeah. Just wanted to let you know about that.
On a completely unrelated note, I have kind of mixed thoughts about Equestria Girls. From the trailer, it seems to be staying faithful to the tone of the show, and I think the premise has a lot of potential. On the other hand... it takes place in a high school. If it focuses on Twilight trying to adapt to the human world and looking for a way back to her own universe, then that'll be fine, but I can't help but fear that the plot could get swept up in a torrent of trivial high school drama. I realize that the show already adheres to a slice-of-life format, but what can fuel a 20- minute TV episode can't usually be relied on to fuel a full length movie.
And maybe this is something that only bothers me, but why do all of the humanized characters have the same body shape? I guess it's more efficient from an animation perspective to limit the number of models/ templates that you have to animate, but... I dunno. I just think it's strange that the brawny farm girl and the cupcake- devouring party girl both somehow have the same build.
To me, it's just weird. Not good, not bad, just weird.
The question "why?" came to mind a lot when I saw the trailer. Like, why is there a magic mirror that leads to an alternate dimension? Why are Twilight and Spike the only ones going to this dimension while everypony else stays behind? If there are alternate versions of her friends in this dimension (as well as cameos from other familiar faces), why doesn't Twilight bump into herself? Why do I get the feeling that most of the humor is going to be derived out of "fish out of water" jokes involving Twilight's new form? Really, it just raises too many questions for me to make a firm judgment one way or the other. Then again, all we've seen so far is a minute-long trailer. Not a whole lot to get out of that.
I'm staying on the fence until I learn more, or at least get some answers to my above questions. I certainly don't think it can't work; it can in the hands of a competent writer (which the staff of FiM have proven to be). But as of right now, my feeling on the concept is simply: "Meh."
Glad to see you back Don't worry, take the time you need.
I'm actually a bit curious about Equestria Girls, and I'll probably watch it if only to see what happens. I was surprised when I watched the trailer, because the humans look fairly less unsettling than it was originally presented, and indeed it seems to be faithful to the spirit of the show; so I've decided to give it a try.
I hope we can see the human versions of Mr. and Mrs. Cake.
