So, yeah, Equestria Girls. I'm sure a lot of you already know about the trailer, but in case not:
I have mixed opinions about what is mentioned of the plot, so I'll start with the good.
First of all, I love how their school looks! It looks less like a high school, and more like a college campus. Very cool! I'm looking forward to what they apply in comparison from the traditions in Equestria to high school on Earth. While I find the characters retaining their coat colors a little weird, I still find it better than white-washing them all. I'm overall hoping the movie focuses on Twilight adjusting to high school and learning how to not rely entirely on magic.
As for what I'm too excited about is first of all, I agree with many people that I would have prefered Spike as a human too considering he has about as many human characteristics as the ponies. I'm going to guess it partially has to do with him having a name common for a dog, and he's probably learning how to adjust without hands in a reverse way to Twilight. Here's to hoping that he's a dog like Snoopy. The trailer gives a strong implication that Homecoming Queen is the equivalent to an Equestrian Princess. It's not declared that officially, but I'm really hoping that doesn't turn out to be true. Homecoming Queen is really just a popularity contest, and I can't see Twilight the popular girl. If that's the case, Pinkie Pie makes more sense as a princess. She's in-universe and out the most popular, making friends almost everywhere. If anything, I'd rather have it equated to Class President considering that focuses on leadership and listening to your classmates, and it works better for Twilight herself. If the crown just needs to be found without being Homecoming Queen, however, that's okay.
I've always considered the idea, personally, that Equestrian Princesses are similar to psychologists and historians. Twilight and Cadance seem to focus on the bonds within relationships while Celestia and Luna focus on society as a whole, teaching their subjects about the history of Equestria.
And of course, I'm hoping Twilight and that guy only turn out to be friends. Please Hasbro, let the fanbase keep making the mane six lesbians for our own content. We don't need another reminder how same-sex couples are "oh, so wrong" for children to see while adding in cheap, shallow hetero couples. On the other hand, Twilight and Rainbow hugging at 0:41 made me 'daww.
And speaking of Snoopy:
