This is it. The Finale. · 7:03pm Feb 16th, 2013
Here is the episode. I will be giving my own review about it, so to avoid reading spoilers, watch the episode first, if you'd prefer to.
I have been excited for this day, and anxious. And now it is here.
When the summary has mentioned that Twilight emerges into a princess by writing her own magic, I was expecting to see unicorns being portrayed as a superior race to the others. The only race that can reach alicornhood.
...But I have been proven wrong. The way magic was portrayed here is something within each pony; earth, pegasus, and unicorn. It's a cheesy way to explain it, but this is what I was hoping would be portrayed. The title Friendship is Magic portrays magic in variety, and this episode reminded me of that.
I liked that this episode focused on all the mane characters destinies instead of just Twilight. I was dreading that, but I was proven wrong, giving me relief.
The animation and effects were phenomenal, especially in the scene where Twilight has given up. That color tone showed true despair and depression. I also loved how outer space was portrayed, heavenly and beautiful.
The music was pretty good, but there were too many songs. I found the intro cliche, and I think there should of been a limit of 2-3 songs. Twilight's depression song, Celestia's song, and the song focusing on the mane characters in their unfitting destinies are my personal favorites.
Rainbow's reaction to Twilight having wings was what I've been hoping for too. Please give more moments to those two in season 4.
My only complaint is that this episode felt very rushed. I would have much preferred this to be a two-parter or even a three-parter. It would have been very nice to hear more about the origins of alicorns and princesses. I was really excited for that, but I didn't get it. Here's to hoping, they focus on that more in season 4. Also, Twilight picking up on flying in the end was very stupid. Yes, she's a princess now, but her core personality is to be the awkward adorkable bookworm we love. They didn't need to add that one bit at the end -_-
I wish we didn't have to wait for months on end for season 4, but I have other shows I've been wanting to catch up on, and then there is my MLP headcanon to work on!
I wish I was an Equestrian princess! D':
