Stop right there, curious scum. You have reached a page which shall be treating the contents of Destiny, which I know you haven't read. So turn back, lest ye fall to the might which you aren't due.
Anyhow. In this post, I will attempt to unravel the plot monster which is that fic, because I know it'll be necessary. You know, clairvoyance and all that.
In order to comprehend this fic, we need to start at the beginning, or at least close to it. Well first off, I love portraying grumpy Twilight, she's getting far too little of that in her role as Sparkle in SatN. To the point, at the start, Twilight is visited by two odd ponies with a strong Canterlot accent who basically only fetch out a book and lay it there for her to read. It would seem obvious that they know more than they let on at first.
As it appears, they know very well what's happening, what has happened, and what will happen. One can only guess as to how they do it, but one thing's for certain, they're pretty good with the theory they created. Perhaps they're not the earth ponies they look to be, perhaps they've devised other means to travel through the planes of reality.
Multiple hints point towards that they visited more than one Twilight Sparkle. But why are they doing this in the first place?
Apparently, Princess Celestia has plans, such as testing for the borders of Twilight's powers, and empowering her fully if there turn out to be none. You see, the princesses can't necessarily travel across planes, but they can observe them. She realised that there lay the final test. If Twilight could overcome the borders of reality itself, there would be nothing stopping her. Then all she'd have to do would be to empower her at the nexus of princesses and make her into a political puppet, overpowering other empires without even noticing. Thus she could fulfill her megalomaniacal dreams of an empire to span across all known landscape. There is evidence that she's tried this before, it sent Luna to the moon when her Assassins dared interfere.
But enough of that. This is the plan, but those ponies... fuck this, let's call them the Lutece. Not the Luteces, since, you know, they're technically the same pony. Anyway, the Lutece caught wind of it. It happened in their home world, it is happening in every other world they visited, and will happen in each of them. As they can visit all worlds, which together express every moment in history because multiverse, they have the foresight that Celestia lacks. In each of the worlds, an empire as great as that the princess tried to create crumbles in on itself. Maybe those who could guide it fall prematurely, maybe it turns out that they weren't strong enough either way. The reasons can vary, but the downfall is constant.
As you can probably guess, they want to prevent that from happening. So they travel from world to world and hope to set up the variables in their favor. They guide Twilight through resolving the crisis and force her to see the truth, in hopes that one of the many Twilights will understand.
Many times have they failed, because Twilight gave in to temptation or just couldn't understand in time. Over time, their means became more and more drastic. Until eventually, this Twilight appears in the Magic Flow and sees the doors to other worlds. Maybe Midnight taught her before she conveniently went to visit her grandparents with TGAPT. Maybe this Twilight relies less on brutal magical power and utilises a stronger link to the Flow from which to draw power. Either way, she sees for herself the destruction that has been, is, and will be caused, and the constant in each of those universes, all of them ending with her accepting royalty. She realises that the constant of herself forces those universes into ruin, so she rejects the power granted to her.
Maybe the Lutece had some part in it, maybe she did it herself, maybe it was caused by going into the Magic Flow. No matter how, in this moment, every single universe is linked. In that moment, there are no alternate timelines for what she chooses to do. Afterwards, they spread out again, but her choice remains firm. Twilight does not become a princess in any of those universes and thus the power remains balanced within the universe.
What happens at the end? Does she return to Ponyville unchanged or does she perish within the Magic Flow? Well, what do you want to happen?
