    Equestrian Musings

With how Equestria handles Timber Wolves and Fruit Bats, I'd hate to meet a Banjo Shark. :rainbowhuh:

    Rules of Criticism

A little while ago, I was reading some old comments on a favorite story of mine, and I saw that someone had tried to critique it... in the worst way possible. Giving constructive criticism without sounding too harsh is a tough balancing act, and this person failed so hard I think they tripped and missed the ground.

    Poor Discord

I have long suspected that in reforming Discord, Hasbro wanted to make their Devil Incarnate character into Robin Williams from Disney's Aladdin.

Did anyone else notice that in Three's a Crowd, they turned him BLUE and had him RUB A LAMP?? :duck:

    Male OCs

Is there some kind of spray we can use to keep male pony OCs from springing up like weeds? Just asking.

Princess Twilight · 1:30am Apr 3rd, 2013

There was no warning for The Magical Mystery Cure.

Twilight solves a problem that she herself caused, and apparently this gave her enough extra XP to go up a level. Twilight’s player cracked open the handbook for the Princess prestige class, and the conversation went something like this:
“I want to become a princess!”
“But princesses in Equestria have to be alicorns!”
“But... I want to play a princess!”
“Fine! Fine. Celestia appears to you in a vision, and gives you wings. She can do that. Let’s just move on.”
“Hooray!”
“Can I have some more cheetohs? I spilled mountain dew on these.”

...sorry. Darn flashbacks.

Okay, I’ll be fair. I actually have no problem with Twilight as an Alicorn. Or even as a Princess... but I could not stand the episode that made this change.

There were a thousand ways they could have pulled it off, and I would have accepted it and moved on. Maybe I would have even cheered at her coronation. Yet the writers and producers bungled that episode so badly that my favorite theory to explain the end of season three is that Twilight died, and everything was a dream. (it’s darker than I like, but at least it makes sense.)

Just as fan memes breathed life into Derpy, just as Lyra and Bon Bon formed mid-cuddle on a park bench, just as Doctor Whooves and his assistant Derpy took shape within our minds and hearts, we the fans hold the power to re-write history in our stories, even if all we usually do with it is write PWP clopfics with our favorite unlikely pairings.

In my world, Twilight either never gained wings, or gained them in some other way. Either way, it creates some excellent story opportunities, doesn't it? And this makes me happy.

So, write, fellow authors of the internet! WRITE! For Twilight! For fanon! FOR EQUESTRIA!

Amen to that, sir. I myself spent twenty minutes watching the episode, and about two and a half hours listing the myriad ways in which it was just plain wrong. The little scene where Twilight shows her transformation to her friends was the freaking highlight of the episode, in my humble opinion.

My guess? There was a version of the episode where it was handled well, and that bit of dialogue was cut and pasted from it. But because Hasbro execs wanted to make a movie DVD out of three episodes (this one and the S4 opener), it was re-written.

Think about it: the entire episode looks to be to a normal episode what a snippet of the early Pokémon movies was to the Pokémon anime. Everything that makes the show recognisable is blown up out of proportion, the plot has barely any connection to show canon -- a fact hidden by a select choice of references -- and things are so bombastic it's artificially made to look like a proper movie. But I guess we'll have to wait for the actual season to air.

Here's hoping I'm wrong :twilightoops:.
