MLP and Destiny · 3:28am Mar 17th, 2013
Ok so I feel this had to be said and everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but with such gripe I felt I should step in and say something myself. So I've been watching a lot of reviewers on the Magical Mystery Cure, and some like the idea of destiny, and others don't because they believe it takes away free will. Now if we look at where this all takes place is quite obviously during the song "What my Cutie Mark is telling me" which has the line "It's got to be my destiny, for it's what my cutie mark is telling me" which I've come to find a lot of people saying that the cutie mark is their talent not their Destiny.
I'm sure you've all heard the sayings "Destiny is what you make it" and "You're Destined for Greatness" I mean I know I have several times in the books I read and shows I watch. Now here's the thing, before they get their cutie mark, they don't know what they're destined to be in the sense of they haven't discovered what they want to do in life yet. This is what we see with the CMC, it's a story of them discovering what they're good at, and what they want to do for the rest of their life, which will bring them to the Destiny they have now made for themselves. They're looking for a specific goal which will eventually show them what they are destined to be through their talent.
So now here's the thing about Destiny and freewill that everyone keeps freaking out, because apparently people believe there is no freewill if Destiny is real. Lets look at it this way for a moment, say you need to go somewhere, and that place is of course going to be your destination; now you have a choice of going there, or just sitting down and doing nothing. If you sit down and do nothing, do you think your destiny or item in this case is going to come to you? Say you've run out of Milk or bread, and you really need it, are you going to get it if you just sit down? Of course not, so in this scenario you have 2 destinies if you will you have the destiny of your fridge and cupboards being empty of essentials, and then you have the destiny of it being full of your essentials, but only one will make that happen which in the end is your choice and oh look Freewill.
Now I'm going to go over how I saw the song "What my cutie mark is telling me" To put it in Laymans terms, because of what their cutie mark was telling them and others conception of what their cutie marks told them, they ended up with the wrong destiny/job. In which I will pause yet again to give you this wonderful quote from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life." This is especially true in what appears the be the Equestrian Society, sure they look to be working to us the viewers, but they also look like they enjoy their work, which means it doesn't feel like work to them. Now when their cutie marks switched, they were thrown into a situation a false pretext of their destiny and what they enjoy, it simply became "Well your cutie mark is this so I guess this is what you have to do." When that didn't match their personality, so it wasn't that their personality switched, just their perspective of what they thought they needed to do for the rest of their life.
So it's like say you really like taking pictures and you have a talent in it, and you see it as your future to become a photographer, and so then you become a photographer. But then something happens and you become a construction worker because of peoples misconception saying "oh you look strong you should do this instead." And so then you end up doing something you don't love, until some one comes along your friend in this case and goes "Yeeeah um why are you doing this? This isn't your calling, you're good at photography here call this agent" and then bamb you're back in business and a photographer again. I don't know, maybe it's just me who see's it all like this but I felt I needed to post it anyways.
