WHOO! I just got Kindle Direct Publishing to reject my first story!
Ahem. I suppose that doesn't sound like such good news. But it's...well, it's complicated.
You see, I've got lots of stories lying around on my blog, just waiting to be sold for money. If I put them on Kindle, I might just make a million bucks (er, ponies?)! But for everything, there is a first time. And I decided to put up a blatantly false "book" up, with the title, Test Booklet, a description that it was only for testing, and a short story for legitimate content. The result? They rejected it on the grounds that "The title or contributor field indicates a test." That may not sound great, but I was ecstatic! I had run something random through the system, and they had a plan for such doings, and they weren't trying to kill me or anything. That's pretty good news.
I got all the experience I needed to try again with something real without any negative ramifications from my initial shenanigans. Hoorah. The message here is that Kindle and Amazon are there to help you. You can make tons of passive income through them, say, through short stories and such, which is a big plus for us fanfictioners over here, and it's set up to be the best it can be. I know fanfictions themselves aren't legally publishable, but if you can write about pastel ponies saving an equine world, you can write about something else. And that something else might just be salable.
Write, write, write! Keep on writing, brothers and sisters! Change the world with your ideas and bring goodness wherever you go.
Sincerely,
Choosybeggar
