Well, it seems like Mane 6 is moving on, possibly to work with the crew from Skull Girls.
While this is good news for them, it pains me to say goodbye to such a great game as FIM. With that, I'm going to say I know a guy who is continuing the game. If anyone knows where to get the most recent code from Mane 6, of if you know anything about Flash animation or 2D Fighter Maker 2002, please message me.

Didn't Lauren Faust say she'd work with them with original content?
Chances are someone will make a mod the replaces the art assets with pony ones again. They'd have to be made from scratch, but this fandom has already shown just how far they'll go with fan projects.
