Work in progress - "Pinkieviduality" · 10:29am Feb 21st, 2013

Sup!

So... Wanna know what else I'm working on in the writing deparment b'sides "Daring Do and the Secret of the Fourth Wall"? :derpyderp1:

Yeah, I know, in my last blog-post I said I wasn't gonna split my attention between two stories ... aaaand right on that same day the episode "Too Many Pinkie Pies" came out. I seriously couldn't NOT write a story about that afterwards. Talk about bizarre timing. :derpyderp1:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Pinkieviduality" is the story of how one of Pinkie's clones randomly wandered off, leaving Ponyville behind altogether.
While the other pink ponies were locked in a fierce staring competition with a drying wall of paint, she was merrily bouncing down a dirt-road, eventually coming across a traveling circus.
The circus seemed like fun - and thus, after making a rather... "unique" first impression, "Pinkie Pie" joined the circus.
'tis a tale of making mistakes, but learning from them;
a tale of comical misunderstandings stemming from a complete lack of life-experience and knowledge of social norms;
a tale of making friends, and growing as a character ... and The First Baked Good Mirror-Pinkie Ever Ate In Her Entire Life (!) :derpyderp1:
...
A few months later, she returns to Ponyville.
It soon occurs to our Ponyvillian heroines that there may have been ... a lapse in judgment.
Can the dark, potentially grimdark conclusion of "Too Many Pinkie Pies" be led towards a happy ending for everypony, and everypinkie involved?
I'm about ~13+ pages in (1+ hour of text-to-speech)
I'm about 50+ pages in by this point. (Though not 50 pages counting right from the start, more like "all over the place", written out of order. About half of that is actually from the second act.)
I figured instead of being all secretive, I'm gonna throw the general outline "out there" and see if I can bounce of my ideas off of y'all. :pinkiesmile:
Fair warning, though, it's still gonna take <indeterminate amount of time> until I can get around to releasing any chapters - mostly, cause I've been jumping back and forth, writing things out of order. As in, chapter 1, 2, 15, 16, 27, 28, 17, 4, 29 or something to that effect. Err. :twilightblush:
EDIT - This is the main problem I have:
I don't know how to structure the narrative properly. Whenever I look at it, I don't see "wow, I've written so much already", it's more of a "oh god, there are all these gaps that I need to still fill".
And then there's the issue that the first act needs to cover a timeperiod of several months to sorta-catch up with the show, at least to a post-Twilicorn point. It wouldn't feel "realistic" otherwise.
What I've got so far covers a few days. :twilightoops:
Writing "Daring Do", I've basically never done more than a "few hours" timeskips. Between chapters. After over 2 years of writing, I literally don't know how to write proper timeskips. :derpyderp2:
Help. :twilightblush:
In a way, this character is "Pinkie Pie"... and at the same time, she is not. This story has quite the potential for both heartwarming and heartwrenching moments!
"C... Cupcakes? For me?? I've never eaten those before! Do they taste fun?"
"Wait... so you're saying that having fun is fun, but if I don't mind other ponies I might ruin *their* fun?! GASP! That wouldn't be fun at all!"
"I... I didn't mean to make a mess... I ... *sniff* I just wanted to have fun..."
What kind of wacky antics and other comical misunderstandings could Mirror Pinkie be up to?
What other experiences should she make? What lessons should she learn?
I'm looking foreward to hearing your ideas! :pinkiesmile:
PS: What do you think of the title "Pinkieviduality"? Is it obvious what it is referring to?
I just realized I have never commented on the site before.
1449124 Incidentally, you have by all rights obtained the privilege to proclaim "First!" on a post made in February 2013. :rainbowdetermined2:
...I kinda expected people to comment sooner, but better late then never. :pinkiesmile:
1st. I use my tablet for this.
Looking forward to this story!
Although, I'd like you to focus on that Daring Do story more.
And I've just realised today you're the same person/pony that made the Super Mario 64 Gameshark code videos that I watched 3 years ago... o.O Awesome! =D
2147141 I guess you're in luck, I usually tend to focus more on "Daring Do and the Secret of the Fourth Wall", but occasionally go and work on Pinkieviduality as well. Though progress on the latter has been extremely ... eratic, one might say, and a fixed release date is regretably nowhere in sight, I do not have any intentions of stopping. :twilightsheepish:
I have a certain tendency to become pretty dedicated once I pass a certain threshold. :rainbowdetermined2:
And yes, it was indeed -I- who let the dogs out. :pinkiecrazy:
2147212 Okay then, I'll wait for you to continue Daring Do and I hope Pinkieviduality will come out someday, too :rainbowlaugh:
Too good you're not planning to abandon either of the stories!
BTW I hope someday you'll rework those GameShark codes to work on emulators, too. (I've written that to you on YouTube a couple of years ago but you seem to have abandoned both channels:raritycry:)
Good luck!
Waiting for new chapters! :)
