MLP:FiM Season 3 Finale - Pulling a Halo 2 · 9:12pm Feb 16th, 2013
You know what? It felt rushed, and kinda felt like they were trying to pack as many songs as they could into one 22 minutes episode without making the whole thing a musical, but the finale wasn't some kind of catastrophic event or something. I'm still not sure how this is going to lead into Season 4, but that leads to the point of this blog post.
They actually pulled a freaking Halo 2. It was a wild ride that lead to a brutal cliffhanger. Literally, having watched that episode, I feel the same way I did after beating Halo 2 and realizing that it wasn't going to offer any resolution to any of the events and story pieces it set in motion. I honestly would have enjoyed all of what that episode had to offer quite a bit more if it actually had any closure to anything, rather than just opening up a lot of doors and then leaving them swinging on their hinges until Season 4.
This is in no way a post saying I either loved it or hated it. I honestly just don't know how to feel about it because it didn't really give me enough to feel anything about. The music was cool, the animation was even better than some previous forays into more advanced areas (that scene with Spike trying to calm Twilight that then adjusts focus to her face while still keeping the shadows of the rain running down the window, for example), and the situations each friend got into before they got each other out of them were pretty funny, but it still just leaves you wanting more when it's all over.
That's honestly my only beef with this. I was looking forward to Season 3 because I wanted to see more of the characters I'd come to love. Now I'm in the position of looking forward to Season 4 in hopes that it'll tie up the loose threads Season 3 left open.
