    Some Housekeeping

As of 02/01/2021, I am taking a bunch of stories I've written from way back in the day offline.

The stories I have taken down cause me pain when I see new comments about or even see favorited. And that pain lasts far longer than I care to admit. Sorry if one of your favorites got hit by this. There may be more in the future.

Further projects are in the works.

    Stay safe.

    Temporary slowdown

Due to some raised tension in my home environment, my mental health is taking a pretty harsh decline, which is making writing difficult. Because of this, I am temporarily modifying the update schedule of Rest In Peace.

Rest In Peace will be updating on an every-other weekly basis, with the next update being scheduled for next Friday, 06/12/2020, at 4:00 PM PST.

    Stay safe.

Darq's Music Challenge! · 2:29pm Feb 8th, 2013

Challenge

Greetings, friends!

I had an idea recently. You guys have been loyal readers of Ever Free, and so I want to read some of your stories! I've put together a fun little challenge for y'all!

Rules: This is a music challenge. You will select a song from the list below, and will write a story while listening ONLY TO THAT SONG. You can write about anything! A mystery, an adventure, a romance, anything. I have tried to select a playlist that contains at least one song to fit any particular mood.

After selecting your song, you can listen to it a full time through, and see what the song sounds like. If you like it, great. If not, pick another. :3 You will then have 24 hours to write a COHERENT SCENE or full story, depending on whichever one you can pull off. Mind you, I actually do listen to these songs when I write, so you'll find the moods in (parenthases) to be fairly accurate.

When you start a story, leave a comment so I know that you're following the time rule. When you finish, leave another comment with a link to your story. In the description of your story, leave a link to this page, plawks. The more people that know about the challenge, the better. :3

Song list:

Hydrodynamo Station (calm/eerie)

Hydra Pulse (epic fight/conflict)

RU116 (don't know how to describe this one's mood)

Penumbra (Adventure. Highly recommended)

Eclipse (another action/adventure oriented one. I find major conflict in this one, and I'm using it to write chapter 12 of Ever Free. Highly Recommended)

Sweden (a calm, warm chorale. Recommended for romance one-shots with lots of feels)

The Witch and the Saint (Adventure, with some calm. Full wind symphonic band.)

Vesuvius (Adventure/tradgedy ish. It was written about the Mt. Vesuvius volcanic eruption, in whichthe entire village below was decimated, if that helps put a picture in your mind)

The Great Locomotive Chase (Adventure with conflict. Written about a famous steam-locomotive chase during the Civil War. Think about two trains chasing each other.)

Fusion (Kind of a machine-like feel. Definitely an interesting one that I'd like to see a story written off of. HINT HINT)
-New version- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0FalLRKO-w

Red Cape Tango (Main conflict. Written about the fight between Superman and Lex Luther)

Hybrid (Adventure. I see a ship flying through space, but that's just me. :3 Highly recommended)
-New version- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_0g3D3JLnk

9999999 (Definitely eerie. Great for a mystery/ creepy adventure in a cave or something)

A Human Did This (Creepy as all hell. Definitely good for a mystery/creepy adventure)

PotatOS Lament (depressing/creepy. Great for a sad, dark, eerie story intended to depress people.)

Living Mice (Kind of calm in the beginning, but gradually builds at the end. It starts really quiet, and remains so until the last 40 or so seconds. Headphones, high volume. I see the sunrise when I hear this song.)

Calm Before the Storm (Very calm chorale. Dark tones with a hopeful ish melody. I see RD just thinking about life whilst flying above the clouds.)

The Great Mystery (creepy and mysterious. A fun piece for a mystery/creepy adventure)

The Psycho Science of Doctor Slime (Fast-paced, running scene. I see the CMC running out of the Everfree.)

Into Oblivion (Large conflict. Composed entirely in 7/8 time, giving it a strange beat. I definitely want to see this one done.)

Fate of the Gods (Adventure. Calm intro.)

Dragon Roost Island (Tropical island feel. Naught but guitar, flute, and minimal percussion.)

Shiver Star Factory (Dunno what mood I get from this one. very weighted and mechanical. A factory assembly line-like pace, and cold feel.)

Moonbird (calm, romantic, lullaby ish. I'd recommend it for a cute/feels-y romance.)

Strobe (Starts calm, and progresses gradually. I am unsure of the mood of it)

Faxing Berlin (Unsure of mood. I find it relaxing, for the most part. Note: I start the song at about 1:10 into the song, where you can just start hearing the melody coming in.)

Feel like I'm missing some songs for a particular mood? Suggest one to me! Drop a comment with a link to the song on youtube, and I'll take a look and give you a hoof up and add it to the list if I believe it's up to snuff. Please note that ALL SONGS ARE AND MUST BE LYRICLESS. I don't want any lyrics popping into anypony's stories. :3

Questions, comments, concerns, suggestions and/or complaints? Comment section is your friend. :3

I eagerly await your various ways of saying 'Challenge accepted.'

Your time for your 'Calm Before the Storm' piece is up. You may take the challenge as many times as you wish, but any works written to the same music must be completely unrelated, lest they be considered an expansion on your earlier challenge. Please submit your story, and leave a link to it. :3

Thanks for trying my challenge. :yay:

:facehoof: I'm happy to take your challenge!
I shall give you a link after church
