Had a cold snap in my neck of the woods, and my grandmother burned her entire woodpile in the last one, so somebody had to split and stack another porch load of it for her. I have to say, of all the dilemnas I've ever faced, this may have been my favorite:
Problem is easily identified: My Grandmother is cold, needs firewood.
Solution to problem is likewise simple: Split as many of the red oak chunks my dad chainsawed up last week as I can, stack them on my grandmother's porch, and when that fills up, under her utility shed.
And every issue that came up, ranging from the split wood still being too large for my grandmother to pick up to the chunks themselves being full of knots and refusing to split when struck, was resolved exactly the same way: Hit the cause of the issue with a three foot long maul welded togather from log truck parts until the issue sorted itself out.
Why can't all my problems be like this?
