Can someone please tell me how Slice of Life and Alternate Universe are mutually exclusive? FiMfiction won't let me have a story with both options as they are "Conflicting catagories"
I can tell a perfectly fine story that could happen in the average life a pony, just you know... not 100% to canon. Like Twilight not meeting the mane 6.
maybe you wanted to write a story about a guard pony or something about his obsessions with the new princess to be. and he goes on a huge little adventure thingy to figure out what she likes and how to get to know her.
but you see it's in a universe where Twilight is next in line for the throne and not in ponyville cus she never met 'em
but it's still a slice of life comedy fic about the adventures of a quirky guard who doesn't play by the rules.
btw I made that plot up on the fly so NO I am not writing that just FWI
I didn't test it but I think Dark and Comedy might be "Mutually Exclusive" but even with them, I've read plenty that could meet both criteria... but none that stick out too well in my memory :c
From what I understand, Alternate Universe does not imply something about the plot is non-canon (else most every fic would require the tag).
Rather, Alternate Universe indicates that something about the world itself (or universe, if you will) is non-canon.
Your example above, however, does seem to suggest both the Alternate Universe tag (for Twilight sans Ponyville friends) and the Slice of Life tag (for the guard's presumable day-in-the-life antics).
Are you certain the Alternate Universe tag and Slice of Life tag are mutually exclusive?
I seem to recall it was the Adventure tag that negated the Slice of Life tag.
