I think I may have finally found a good name that fits my new zebra colt character. (Remember reading about him in my last blog post?)
I did a little bit of research while deciding on a name for him, to make sure I was sticking to the proper guidelines for character-creation, to make him fit in with the rest of the world around him (logic-wise, not necessarily "fitting in," like he certainly won't xP), and in general to add authenticity to the character.
The first thing I did was look up whether Zecora was a real African name and not just something made up to sound good. What I found was that, while it isn't actually a person-name, and technically doesn't even exist as a real word anymore, the term zecora used to be the word the Oromo people in Ethiopia used for "zebra." I also found out on the My Little Pony wiki page that Zecora supposedly speaks Swahili.
For this reason, I decided that her nephew should have a Swahili name, and because of his bright green eyes and hooves, I decided to go with the name Chokaa Kupigwa, Swahili for lime stripes. Of course, Kupigwa would be the family name, and he would obviously go by Chokaa, but I think the whole name sounds pretty together; don't you agree?
Anyway, now that I've finally got a name for my main character, I think I can finally begin officially writing the story, so... expect to see it sometime within a month! O3O
