Two Paths (Finally!!!) · 7:21am Dec 30th, 2012
So, remember when I promised to start the sequel to Three's A Crowd by the end of December?
Well, that's still the plan!
I just finished writing the first chapter of Two Paths, and so far I'm pretty happy with it. Warning: I'm about to go into some tl;dr (along with SPOILERS if you haven't finished TaC, but the important thing is that Two Paths is coming, and I hope you like it.
To be honest, this was the fic that I originally set out to write when I wrote Three's A Crowd. I don't want to spoil the story (and thankfully I can't, since I haven't decided how exactly it'll end), but I was heading off to college and wanted to channel the sort of separation anxiety that comes from that. Along the way, I decided that I needed to have Twilight and Applejack's relationship already established in order to do what I wanted, so I started writing a TwiJack fic. The whole thing with Fluttershy was totally an accident. I started the first chapter and thought, "Holy crap, what if...?" and just ran with it. I love where I took that part of the story, though, and I'll also be dealing with the whole FlutterDash issue in Two Paths. Personally, I'm a PinkieDash kind of guy, but I enjoy the potential that Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash have, so hopefully I'll do that justice while I deal with TwiJack.
Something I think I might get some complaints about: Two Paths starts some time after the end of Three's A Crowd. A month, as a matter of fact. There's a reason for that. I know that my writing isn't terribly dynamic. It's largely dialogue-driven, and it needs a strong thematic focus to go anywhere interesting. I may do a few little side stories filling in the gap, but as it stands, I'd rather skip to when the important stuff happens and fills in the blanks as I go than bore everyone with useless junk for the sake of "completeness" or something. If I fail to give you an idea of how the ponies' relationships have evolved in the interim, that's a problem, but I think I can do it well. (This could be me as a paranoid fool, btw, but whatever.)
While I'm at it, I'd like to thank everyone who liked and/or favorited Three's A Crowd. I had a blast writing it, I'm having a blast with Two Paths, and I hope you guys continue to enjoy the ride as we move on to the second part of the story. (If not, be sure to chew me out about it. I know I need to improve, and who better to tell me how than you guys? )
P.S. I'll submit Two Paths tomorrow morning, so it should be up sometime tomorrow. I'm excited!
Yeah Flutterdash and TwiJack forever o/
Nice work dude, I can't wait
