Some more stuff I'm working on · 12:55pm May 25th
So, if anyone cares, some of you might remember this post, where I detail myself taking a break from my book to work on other, smaller stuff set within my fantasy world. Since then, I've begun writing more short stories, such as seen here, and here. But, lo and behold, even more ideas have taken hold of my anxiety-fueled "creativity", and I've begun writing even more short stories.
One which will be so short that it can barely be called a story, more like.. a blurb. An incident. It follows Karl, a man in his late 50s who has worked as the nightly gatekeeper of Kråkhöjdens slott for many years; decades even. And this particular story tells the tale of his last night in service of the castle, as uncertain events push him into darkness.
I have also begun writing a short story about a bard called Derrin, who travles the roads of Dalmeria, offering song and dance to everyone he meets. Eventually, he finds himself in Klöverdalen, or Clover Valley, where, by chance, he has a meeting with the valley's loyal protector; a strange, foreign figure keeping the folk of the valley safe from harm. Very much unlike what I usually write, much more positive and happy, with no traces of horror, darkness or anything of the sorts. Just two lonely souls meeting each other and spending time together.
Another story I've yet to behgin writing, and is still just in the planning phase, takes place in the land of the Dark Elves, Altea. Focusing on three sisters -- Heather, Rose, and Lilly -- it tells a tale of madness and unspeakable evil, heavily inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, but with my own twist on it. The three sisters live in the town of Gustavo, a city on the border to Dalmeria. Heather and Rose like the town and it's quaint streets and the many flower fields around it that inspired their names, but Lilly is of a different mind. She feels suffocated in town, like she's constantly struggling to keep her head above troubled waters. So she instead spends a lot of time traveling the country, with each new journey taking her further and further away from home. At one point, she returns home in a blissfull mood, telling her family that she visited the sleepy town of Cauldron Hollow, and met a wonderful man that she had fallen in love with. Despite her family's protests, she leaves to return to her beloved promising to be back soon. But as the days turns into weeks and the weeks into months of not a word from her, the family becomes more and more worried. FInally, Heather and Rose decide to head to Cauldron Hollow themselves and bring their sister home. They reluctantly leave their sick and aging mother in the care of their father, and head south.
Upon reaching the town, nestled deep in the woods, they find it to be rather busy and bustling despite its isolated location. The people are friendly and welcoming, and everything seems fine. They begin searching for their sister, but strangely, finds that whenever they mention her name, the townsfolk's faces become dark and vacant. It becomes clear to the sisters that all is not as it seems in the town, and that the people are hiding something. On a hill on the southern part of town stands a strange cathedral with a domed roof, sealed off and foreboding.
Together, the sisters are pulled into unfathomable horrors and unspeakable darkness as they begin to unravel the towns dark secrets. Unnatural forces has its grip on the town, and they begin to wonder if they'll ever find their sister, or even if they'll make it out of the town alive.
That's what I have at the moment. They aren't masterpieces, but I enjoy writing them. If it isn't obvious, my love of all things horror is bleeding into my fantasy world, and I like that. I've rarely seen fantasy and horror put together, though I'm sure such a fusion does exist, I just haven't found it myself... Either way, I'd be glad to hear what you guys think of this!
