Greetings, folks. This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today. This afternoon, I will be reviewing “Black Adam” which was released last year 2022. This movie was just…awful. Just downright awful. The DCEU is nothing more than a joke and a laughingstock at this point, and it is not surprising to see this franchise go down in a slippery slope. This film in particular perfectly represents everything that I hate about this universe and the wasted potential they keep piling up.

This movie is about…actually you know what? I’m not gonna write the summary for this movie this time. It doesn’t deserve it. Here’s what this is about: it’s about an edgelord antihero who does things that a typical edgelord antihero would do in bad fanfiction. There you have it. That’s all you need to know about this mess.

Now, as I have already explained in my “Shazam” review two years ago, I do not like Shazam as a character nor do I like the concept behind him. He’s probably the only DC superhero I genuinely dislike. Black Adam, from I what I know, is supposed to be one of his archenemies (besides Dr. Sivana and Mister Mind) until he would later on become a corrupted antihero in other comics. This movie, however, did very little work in regards to his villainous side because that’s what he was originally.

The filmmakers decided to make him a full antihero with a tragic backstory, and in doing so, they reintroduce a character who could be looked at through a whole different perspective. Unfortunately, there was zero heart and soul in the writing thereof. This version of the character is bland, boring, edgy, and just cringey to watch. This is frankly the worst film role Dwayne Johnson has ever played. The way he acted and spoke felt off and awkward which I blame the director and the writers for.

The choreography and CGI look so dull and unappealing. It’s all the same moves they pull whenever they fight, and every time the characters go into action, they gotta say some dumb jokes that ruin the scenes with no shame.

Speaking of which, none of the characters were remotely interesting or memorable. Yeah, sure, there’s Dr. Fate, Hawkman, Cyclone, and Adam Smasher. To be honest, I was never a fan of these guys in any DC media. They’re just not as cool as the likes of Batman or Wonder Woman or even Superman. This film made me like them a lot less because of the terrible comedy and tone.

The villain himself was absolutely generic as hell. I had a feeling he was gonna be evil since the movie started, and how he planned everything was so predictable. Oh, and his demonic form in the final act looked stupid. Whether it’s the awful CGI or not, his design looks so mediocre! I actually feel sorry for the CG artists and animators for making that visual monstrosity.

While the movie does suffer from the poor acting, bad cinematography, shallow action, and weak dialogue, I think my number one main issue with this movie is how it tries so hard to please its viewers but fails to deliver satisfaction. For example, it has a post- credit scene of Black Adam talking with Amanda Waller before he is confronted by Superman face to face. Unlike other fans, I wasn’t satisfied at all with that scene because it did nothing to earn that “applauding” moment. Why would I want to stick around for poorly-written characters?

Overall, we have yet another superhero movie that is full of content but with no substance. Just because The Rock is in this doesn’t mean it’s gonna be a banger movie or whatever. This gets a 0/10! And before anyone asks, I am pretty much done with the DCEU at this point.

This was the final nail in the coffin for me which is why I’m not watching “The Flash”, and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods”. They’re just not worth it. I’m not so sure about “Aquaman” though because I still need to re-watch that movie. Until then, this franchise can stay dead for all I care.

Peace.

This was the final nail in the coffin for me which is why I’m not watching “The Flash”, and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods”.

I was never certain over whether those movies would be worth checking out anyway, mainly because of their mixed receptions and poor performances at the box office.

That being said, though, I only saw “Black Adam” once in theaters. I remember it being pretty decent, but as something to watch over and over again…it didn’t exactly stick with me.

I’m not watching “The Flash”, and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods”.

Did watch Fury of the Gods and... Probably about what you expect from the DCEU. Might watch "The Flash" but... Truthfully, I'd rather watch the DCW Universe and, of course, the DCAU.

Are you looking forward to James Gunn’s DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU)?

aka the movie that destroyed the DCEU thanks to The Rock's big ego.

Why, if I may ask?

5752891
I’m just not interested in what he has planned.

5752892
Are you not a fan of James Gunn, in particular?

5752945
Well, he’s alright, but I’m not a huge fan of him per se.

5752949
Any reasons why not? Just out of curiosity.

He’s just not that interesting of a director. That’s all.

Harsh. :rainbowderp:

He help MADE the Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy, Brightburn, and the better reboot/sequel of Suicide Squad.
