Why I Prefer MLP G4 over G5 · 5:37pm Sep 3rd, 2023
Let's get started!
So, when I watched MLP G4, I thought it was awesome. The characters all had different personalities, and there were really funny moments, too. Plus, their designs are pretty good. I got really attached to the characters, and naturally, I was sad when G4 ended.
But then came G5. Originally, I was biased and thought it would be really, really bad...but the movie turned out to be pretty good. The animation and art were of high quality. In my opinion, the plot was mid, but what really captured my attention was the characters. Each one was unique with a distinct personality, and I just love their designs!
But that was the movie. Make Your Mark was a different story.
I didn't actually watch Make Your Mark, but I saw some snippets of it on YouTube. And from what I could tell, there was a clear difference between the quality of the movie and the quality of Make Your Mark. First of all, the characters' voices changed. Their voices are a HUGE part of their personalities, in my opinion, and the change...was not very pleasant for me. Also, their mane and fur colors changed slightly. I don't think the new colors look good on them.
Honestly, my biggest problem with Make Your Mark is that the characters' personalities got watered down. For one, Izzy became too bouncy and excited and sometimes annoying. I know that's how she's supposed to be, but they just got rid of the other side of her personality--the deeper, more emotional side that made for cute moments in the movie.
Basically, when I watched the G5 movie, I actually felt a connection to the characters. It reminded me of G4 and how good it was. But they took all that away in Make Your Mark. Make Your Mark felt way too childish. I know it's supposed to be a kids' show, but...still.

I know I haven't really watched Make Your Mark, so what I say about it is likely to be wrong. I understand that the creators had a budget, so I can't blame them. These are just my opinions. Hmm. Well you have your opinion. I definitely prefer G4 over G5. Its failed as a sequel in my eyes, not in the sense that its bad, I just can't see it as a true continuation due to the inconsistencies.
