    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

More Quickie Reviews! · 2:24am Aug 18th, 2023

I think it's overdue for another round of quickie reviews; so here's some stuff I've been seeing and my shortened but still cohesive reviews.

Major League

It... was okay? I guess? I dunno, I guess I was expecting... more? I don't know if I just didn't pick the right day to watch this, or if it was cause I was too distracted by other things, but I dunno, this movie didn't really leave much of an impact on me. Once in a while there's a funny joke that got me, but I just couldn't really find myself getting invested in the characters or the story. And here's the weird thing, there is a baseball movie I've seen that I legitimately really love; A League Of Their Own. I don't know if it's cause the movie was more of a period piece, or if it's cause the plot was more interesting to me in that movie, but yeah this movie didn't grab me that much. The best thing I can say is in it, is the cover of Wild Thing which is an absolute BANGER of a song. Seriously, X's cover of that song is awesome, go look it up.

I give ehh... 5 out of 10.

Multiverse of Madness

I... thought this was also okay. I will admit I am not the biggest fan of Dr Strange, I only saw this cause I heard there was a lot of horror elements. And I will admit, some of those elements here I absolutely loved, but it kinda made me want more. I will also admit, I did love one sequence that introduced a particular group of characters that I did love seeing appear, but was also left annoyed cause I feel like their potentials to do more were killed on the spot. I don't really have a lot to say on this on; loved the horror stuff, but kinda wanted more of it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Okay, this movie was just awesome. A lot of folks are saying this is one of the best works Marvel has done, and also the best Guardians... and there's a very good reason for that. There's a lot of great character exploration in this movie, especially for Rocket Raccoon, and hot damn is it dark. Like HOLY SHIT. :rainbowderp: This movie does not hold back on the dark subject matter, lemme tell ya that. But at the same time, it made me happy with the silly humor and funny jokes that Guardians is well known for, cause it gave me some much needed levity during some of these dark as hell moments. Characters were great, it had awesome development, new characters were a lot of fun too, it's an awesome movie. Also, Cosmo. Cosmo is best doggo, and I will snuggle the hell out of that cosmonaut! :rainbowkiss:

Rise of the Beasts

I will admit I had low expecations going in... and I was honestly glad I saw it, I had a fun time. It does feel like there are mild retreads of the Bay movies at time, but it also doesn't feel like that either, if that makes any sense. Starters alone, I don't know if it's just only me, but I loved watching the action sequences here; despite it having a huge setpiece battle at the end, I was able to see what the hell was happening, and I didn't feel like I was getting nauseous watching it. Hell the museum fight, is probably my favorite action sequence in the whole movie. I will admit, I do have a few nitpicks/critiques. One of my major ones... is the design for Wheeljack. You got him right in Bumblebee, why the hell would you change that?!

And I will admit, I do wish we had spent more time with the Terrorcons; I don't feel like we had enough time with them, I wanted to see them interact some more than what we got. Hecc, even having a few Decepticons would have been nice, I know this movie's about the Maximals and Beast Wars stuff, but I feel like the Decepticons would have had equal presence in this movie since the main villains are opposition against ALL Transformers alike.

Now with that said, the rest of this movie is pretty good. I loved our human characters, once again, they aren't Sam Witwicky, hell you know what? The final battle... Noah completely, completely blows Sam Witwicky out the water. Noah, Elena, along with Charlie from Bumblebee, are the kind of human protagonists we should have had from the get-go, not annoying asshats like... well you know, I'll spare the rant on that. But seriously, it's nice having interracial protagonists who are not made into walking joke stereotypes. Noah and Elena, I love these two, great protagonists. Hell, I love the Autobots; I am a bit conflicted on Optimus Prime's portrayal, but I think I'll warm up to it. Mirage was pretty great too, and he proves that not all human-robot friendships have to be just Bumblebee. Arcee's great too, even if she isn't major. I will admit I thought the Maximals were okay, I loved Airazor, absolutely, but I don't feel like we spent enough time with the others.

If they got more in this rebooted universe down the line, I'm still eager to see more; I'm down for a new series. Fresh start, solid beginning.

Spider-Man Across The Spiderverse

This movie was awesome. :pinkiehappy:

I love expanding more on the relationship with Miles and his family, the action scenes were great, the animation honestly I say looks like it's gotten improved, even though it was already great. The attention to colors and animation styles on each individual character is amazing, seriously, kudos to all of the animators who worked on this movie, they deserve all the credit for the work they did on this movie. And I seriously hope they get a good enough amount of time to work on the next movie, cause there is no way in hell they can crunch an entire year to animate all this.

Also, the Spider people... oh my god, the Spider people. I LOVE how many different variations of Spider-Man there is, and I love all the unique designs, even with the few repeats here and there. The fact this inspired so many people to make their own Spidersonas, including myself, says a lot about how much love they had for this movie. If the vision for Spider-Man is that anyone can be him, they really ran with that concept here and I love it. Man, woman, nonbinary, robots, cartoons, Lego, animals, werewolves, anyone can be the Spider-Man. THAT IS AWESOME! :rainbowkiss::raritystarry:

I literally have only one nitpick and that's only the ending and how big of a cliffhanger it is. I won't say anything on it, cause well, that's not what I'm here to do, but that's about it. This movie is just great.

And that is my current slew of reviews for the night; I'm hoping to still try and come with more, cause I know there is still a lot of shows and movies I wanna cover, but I figure this would be a good way to get a lot of reviewing done and still get straight to the point without dragging it on. Thank you all for still staying with me and being patient on my updates.

Hope you all have an awesome evening. :scootangel:

Seems like a very fair set of write-ups to my view. I definitely think that Across the Spider-Verse is my favorite movie of 2023 thus far - though GOTG 3 also made a good runner-up. Both of those movies really show just what can be done with comic book characters and their worlds. Truly first-rate filmmaking on both counts. :ajsmug:
