My 7 year old LCD TV is dying
They're only supposed to last 5 years but the internet mentioned "50,000 hours" & that's about 20 hours a day, 7 days a week & I don't watch near that much TV so I thought it would last longer. I can't get a new one until I get my SS check for August so I've been watching the -ING internet & some of what I saw inspired thought.
NAFTA.
Saw an extract of a 2016 Trump/Hilary debate & he mentioned NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement).
Passed in 1994 by her husband POTUS Bill Clinton, it was replaced by an upgraded version, the USMCA (United States Mexico Canada Agreement) in 2006.
Opposed by Ross Perot, it DID cost the USA about 950,000 jobs (manufacturers relocated to Mexico), devastated the Mexican farm industry, and hurt the US trucking industry.
On the other hand
It did grow the US economy about 80 billion a year (0.8%)
The 12 years it was in effect, unemployment averaged 5.1% (better than any year under Reagan) as opposed to 7.1% the 12 years before. Clinton was the first POTUS since Eisenhower to pay down the US debt since Eisenhower. He must have done something right.
IMO most of those jobs would have been lost to either China or automation anyway.
The Beatles
Peter Best was the drummer before Ringo Star. He later sued the band for £18,000,000. Settled out of court for an undisclosed (but presumably lesser) sum.
In post breakup interviews the members were asked their most & least favorite song & album. ALL of them said Sgt Pepper was their least favorite album even though it was a critical & popular hit & many people call it their best album.
Strawberry Fields Forever (a song from that album) was both Lennon & McCartney favorite.
During an interview, Paul said a stage hand asked him if he was nervous
"No, of course not."
"You should be -there's 73 million people watching."
