Status Update 7/15/23: On Legions of Cooled Steam Progress · 4:54am Jul 15th, 2023
Hey all,
Progress is being made on the initial batch of 4 chapters! I have now finished a proper draft for all of the first three chapters, and all that is left is to write the fourth and revise for consistency.
I know, first proper fic and all and I'm already being all fussy-like, but if I'm gonna be cringe, I wanna take it seriously I guess. After all, I'll only grow as a writer if I do.
Estimated word count of the initial batch of chapters is around 20k, give or take.
Why do I want to release the first four as a group? Honestly, a big part of this all is just making sure I can commit to it, and granted that was the original reason. Probably the biggest reason now though is I don't want to confuse others by shifting around the foundation too much while it's out. I've had to go back and revise sections of earlier chapters on several occasions, but this unstable phase should be more or less resolved by the completion of chapter 4. By then, I should have all major plot threads set up to the necessary degree.
After all, a lot of time I spent on chapter 3 was spent filling in the gaps of my overall plot and setting up the respective threads for those bits. It took a ton of time and mental effort, and honestly I'm kind of surprised I managed to push through all the obstacles that thing threw at me. Perhaps, then, this post is a little self-congratulatory, but I kind of needed to put something out there to stamp out the temptation of just putting all I've written so far out there now amid my high for having conquered one of the tougher writing tasks I've imposed on myself. It's still cooking. Still simmering. I have to get it to the point where I'm done setting everything up and moving into the action.
Hopefully chapter 4 cuts me a little slack though, not gonna lie. It'd be nice to have an easy chapter after that gauntlet, especially seeing as it is most of what stands in my way of having the full picture set up.
Really can't wait to see what people think of this, for better or for worse.
