Came back from watching Transformers: Rise of the Beasts · 11:15pm Jun 8th, 2023

IT. WAS. AMAZING!!

I had a fantastic time watching the movie at my local theater. Folks, I haven’t had such an amazing time since the summer of 2011 when my father and I watched “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”. That was the last time I’ve been to a theater. So watching a new transformers film in a fucking movie theater after 10+ years felt so nostalgic.

I mean, I didn’t want to miss out. John Wick 4 and Across the Spider-Verse are in my watch list, but I won’t be watching them in a theater. I love both franchises, but Transformers is my number one favorite franchise in the world. You don’t miss out on that shit. You hear me, folks?

I watched the film in IMAX, and it was SOOOOO worth it.

Without giving away spoilers, the movie is pretty awesome in every way! The story is engaging, the characters were handled with care, the stakes were high, and the action scenes are mesmerizing to behold. I wish I could say more, but I’ll leave that for the future.

The best characters in the film are Optimus, Airazor, Noah, Mirage, and Scourge. Enough said.

Trust me, you will LOVE this movie. If you haven’t already, please purchase your tickets, find your local theaters, and watch it. You won’t regret it. In my opinion, it is slightly better than “Dark of the Moon” and “Bumblebee” and on par with “Transformers (2007)” and “Age of Extinction”. Thank you, Steven Caple Jr, for creating such a beautiful, genuinely amazing film for the Transformers franchise.

Alright, that’s enough praise for now. Peace out!

Are there some criticisms you have about the movie?

Just a few nitpicks.

Some characters have little to no dialogue, the film is a little too fast-paced, some of the jokes didn’t land for me, and there were very VERY few predictable moments.

That’s it. Can’t go into detail much, so you have to see it for yourself.

How did you feel about the Transformers-G.I. Joe crossover teaser?

5732520
I was surprised although I have no strong feelings for it as I never grew up with G.I. Joe.

Hilariously, me and a buddy of mine are seeing it today.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but there’s one thing I’ve grown curious about regarding it:

Why do you suppose the film was met with a mixed reception from critics compared to the “Bumblebee” film? And is there any chance that both movies are part of a universe separate from the movies directed by Michael Bay?

Some nitpicks for me would be Apelinq and Airazor not showing off their robot modes, finding a way to free Airazor from Unicron’s influence without having to kill her, Transit being worked into as a part of the Terrorcons, Stratosphere taking active part in the final battle, Optimus Primal finding out there may be more Maximals that escaped Eurakis’ destruction, the Predacons being teased for the next film, and a post-credits scene of what the Decepticons are up to.

Bumblebee and ROTB are part of a rebooted universe. Don’t listen to the uniformed, pretentious dickheads who say otherwise.

Thank you.

I enjoyed the three Transformers films that starred Shia LaBeouf, but I would love for future live-action films to be part of a separate universe from them. I mean, I read from a couple of source-backed paragraphs on Wikipedia that the films were set to be prequels to the 2007 Transformers film, but I honestly couldn’t see how that was so due to a number of factors.

Some other things would've been a few shout-outs from the original Beast Wars: Transformers (i.e. "That's just Prime," "Time to hit the wind," "I'd say it's trampling time," "Ultra-gear"), a designated girl fight between Arcee, Airazor and Nightbird, Prime, Primal and Noah tag-teaming against Scourge, Wheeljack and Rhinox helping Elena stop the portal (showing us their smarts), and Bumblebee and Cheetor bonding while they do hit-and-run tactics against Battletrap and Transit.

That would have been cool to see. All of them. But sometimes, less is more. I’m still happy with what I got. Plus, what the film didn’t do we can fix in our fanfics. Isn’t that great?

5732582
A lot of people are split between that, but it is completely a reboot. Wikipedia sources aren’t reliable, you know.

5732586
I do wonder if the G.I. Joe-Transformers crossoverwill take place in between or after the Unicron Trilogy? Also, since it seems like Rise of the Beasts took some elements of Transformers: Armada to mix in with Beast Wars: Transformers, do you think the next two movies will be basically Transformers Animated and Transformers: Energon set in the 2010s and Transformers Aligned Continuity and Transformers: Cybertron in the 2020s?

5732590
I dunno, man. We just have to wait and see.

Out of curiosity…

What were the many differences you noted between the Autobots’ designs in both “Rise of the Beasts” and the Bay-directed films?

5736596
The rebooted movies are going for more simplistic designs whereas the Bayverse designs are more complex and heavily detailed—which for some people makes it hard to tell who’s who.

I personally like both.

5736610
I was wondering about that.

Last I heard, Optimus Prime’s facial design for “Rise of the Beasts” was gonna be modeled after Peter Cullen, and I definitely remember his facial features in Michael Bay’s “Transformers” movies not looking anything like Cullen’s.

5736632
Correct.

Also, Optimus’ face in the Bay films was modeled after Liam Neeson who was originally chosen to voice him in the 2007 film until the fans demanded Micheal Bay to bring back Peter Cullen.

5736635
😮Woah. I didn’t know that.
